I can't remove the speakers from my Harman Kardon Go + play, is there a trick to do it?

You can remove the grill in front of the speakers by using 2 mini mini screw driver one to pry it out little by little while the other to hold it from going back in .There are noscrews holding the grill. They are held by 4 clamps which are the grill inner end bend abit out thats all. So if you pry it will give way not to worry the grill is made of a hard aluminium material it just needs care in order not to scratch the paint surface and aluminium ring around it,use a soft cloth to protect the ring when prying.Remember this aluminium ring wont come out its only the grey grill that will. This thing is worth saving because it sounds great even after speaker repair.Yes where i am in Idonesia there are people who are profesionals at repairing speakers that are torn out like our harman.(torn due to age around the speaker cone).i paid 15 usd to get the both of them repaired and its the best 15 dollars i have ever spent.Cause now it could not have sounded any newer the bass is back the balance is pure harman again

My Harman Kardon Go + Play won't turn on, it is

I concur with the solution route indicated by Louie Role above. I have a similar problem with our H/K Play & Go Wireless. The problem in our case could be isolated to simply a bad power connection at the back of the unit, which connects to the 18 Volt high current DC source. All kinds of strange problems occurred such as not being found at all as a BT unit, faulty connections, also that it may work at low volume but you get dropouts at higher volume settings. It appeared as if the unit has "power" (power button was white) but not enough amps to drive it fully or even to establish BT connection sometimes - requires quite a lot of current this little monster :) Our temporary fix this evening is to just make sure the connector has some physical drag to the side to ensure sufficiently low contact resistance. This fixed the problem 100% so I'm sure this is the problem. Also tested it with a car battery and an 12 => 18v converter and it worked just fine, here the power connector was slightly narrower than in the original power source. I'll fix this tomorrow by disassembling the unit and replace/adjust or re-solder the power terminals at the power connector. Not sure just cleaning the contacts will work since the connector feels a bit wobbly and this is not ok for this application - needs a really solid contact to deliver the required current to this powerful little music machine! Fantastic value I must say, we love this unit still after so many years so very happy to be able to bring it to life again!

I have dissected the whole console and found the outer band of the speaker has just come off....have attached photos to make it clear. does the outer speaker cone will make a difference or i will have to replace the speakers itself.....when i checked pressing the speaker down and played the distortion had gone....but while playing without holding the distortion would come back....Hope you can help me in this situation....Thanks in Advance..... 714812a0-935e-4f95-922e-50c6ba281b9c.jpg 36e62701-6370-491a-a317-a11c69cc9525.jpg

Harman Kardon Go + Play Portable Speaker Keeps Shutting Off

I just had this exact problem. I'm using an ipod mini. I solved it by docking the ipod firmly at the angle
the dock is at and have the ipod at an angle, not flat. I put the plastic and rubber adapter for the mini as instructed and also placed the rubber adapter for the nano upside down to keep
the ipod propped at an angle. (Also can use something similar to keep ipod propped up at an angle)
Took a while when I first used to figure out how the dock worked. The dock is a little weird how it is hinged to go from an angle to flat. Nothing in the instructions about this. By putting the ipod flat it would still have a connection to charge and play but the power shuts off every 10 minutes. I spent a whole night having it shut off every 10 minutes. This drives me crazy when systems have features like that which always seems to cause more problems (just my humble opinion)
By having the ipod at an angle I'm currently just now having it run an hour and 20 minutes and counting with no shut offs,(fingers crossed) but so far so good.
Saw on the internet that if the ipod is not connected firmly the system has an auto shut down. I think the ipod's weight propped at an angle keeps the connection firm. Also some said they want to see the ipod display, there you go!!!! This seems to be working so far for me, may be worth a try...I was about to return mine but I love the sound so I'm keeping mine now!!!! Works fine. Happy camper again.
Please reply if this works for anyone it worked for me.

I can't remove the speaker

Remove the protecting grill in front. Check if the cone is still connected to the rubber band. If not, remove the screws around the speaker. Open the casing itself. Do not forget the screw in the middle of the battery compartment. Remove the bottom cover. Disconnect the 2 wires on the speaker and take out the speaker. It will come out with the plastic protection around it. Looking at the cone now, push up the Carton cone and keep it in place by putting some tissue paper or small cloth underneath. Clean the cone first. Use some rubber cement on the outer edges of the cone and press the rubber back on the cone. Let it dry for an hour and then remove the tissue / cloth, so the cone goes back to its normal position. You can use some extra rubber (those pre-glued strips that you would use to fix a bicycle tire) to make it extra strong. Remount everything back in place and voila....it works again! If your cone is not damaged, the casing most probably does not seal good anymore. Tighten all screws a little more and use plastic electrical tape all around to seal all joints. The bass is produced inside the casing itself and pushed out via a horn. If it is not closed off well, your bass sounds grumpy.

Only 3 speakers work!

I took the bottom off my go play to have a look inside, the internal port is connected to one rear speaker grill and the other is blanked off, so no sound will come out of that one.

When i connect my i phone 4 to my h k dock i get a message saying this accsesory is not supported in charging

It sounds like you have the version which was built before the iPhone updated and changed its dock slightly. It's still the same wide dock but like a lot of stations the updates to iPhone's hardware left compatiability issues. Most importantly, it will still sound perfect.
