[email protected] freezing in the back,

NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very, very carefully.
First I would check cold control. Thats where you turn it off, if your temp is not warm. it can
be defective and not shutting off. If your temp is warm proceed with the following.
I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if FREEZER CONTROL is turned WARMER WHICH MAKES THE REF COLDER AND VICE-VERSA. SEE?
The ref. temp should be about 33-35
The Freezer temp should be 0 to 10 Any thing below these temps is overkill and a waste of elect
The higher the number you turn it up to is the coldest
But is probably a common defrost problem The ice build up
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath
Make sure back cover is on the fridge. Some take them off and throw them away.
make one out of cardboard if its gone, using the holes of the old one.

I have water on the bottom of the freezer which is now leaking into the frige

Hi mkovach675 - Based on the symptoms that you are describing, the ice developing on the floor of the freezer is more than likely due to a clog in the evaporator drain. Since the issue has reoccurred, at this point, I would recommend contacting a service technician to proceed further.

Freezing in refrig section

Hello tlittle71 - If the refrigeration side is the one with the issue, you need to check the damper door/switch that is between both doors. In side by side units this damper controls the cool air from the freezer to come over to the refrigeration side to cool it. Contact a professional technician to diagnose if the unit has a floating restriction or an issue with the evaporator fan.

Freezer works refridgerator dont

The first thing you want to do is open the freezer and see if the fan inside there is running. The reason is the freezer cools the refrigerator side by circulating air from the freezer. If the fan is running then your problem is one or more parts of the defrost system is malfunctioned and in return your problem arises. There are three parts to the system, the defrost timer or in some cases control board, defrost thermostat also known as a bi-metal, and the defrost heater. The defrost system is set up to operate as so. The defrost timer or control board will turn the machine off, in some cases every 8 hours, some 12. During this time period the defrost heaters, located behind the freezer wall and rest underneath the evaporator, yet wires to them run up the side of it, are energized and emit heat that raises upward to melt the ice that has formed on the evaporator coils. The bi-metal or defrost thermostat is at the top of the evaporator. When the heat from the heater starts to reach the bi-metal, it breaks the circuit turning the heater off. The whole purpose of this is because the freezer cool the refridgerator side by drawing air across the coils and blowing to the other side via the evap fan motor. In my opinion, if you change one part of the defrost system change them all because usually when one part fails another will follow, so save yourself the time and the food loss, the cost difference is minute. I am getting frost on all items in the freezer

Frost is a sign that your gasket seal is leaking and sucking in air somewhere. Put a light inside and check around the seal of both doors at night...you will see where the leak is, usually near the corners.

If you are talking about the exterior of the refrigerator - check the condenser grill - if it is dirty or blocked the compressor can not get rid of the heat from the coolant properly so transfers the heat to the cabinet.

The first two things I would check are: 1. The condenser grill underneath the unit and make sure that they are clean and that you have air flow around it. 2. Take a look at your evaporator coils and make sure that you don't have ice built up - if you do you have a defrost circuit malfuntion. If you defrost the freezer and it starts working your defrost circuit is not doing its job. NOTE: It normally takes about two weeks for it to build enough ice to make a difference.

IF the compressor is working and pumping coolant to the evaporator coils then it will probably cure itself. BUT if the compressor is very hot to the touch it might have locked up. Sometimes during power surges the compressor start relay or capacitor is blown and will require replacement, but there are multiple possibilities that could also cause it, but first you need to check that the compressor is working before exploring them.

The evaporator coil is located on the back wall of the freezer section. It is normally behind a plastic shield. NOTE: Plastic is brittle when cold so use caution while removing and don't over torgue the screws when replacing.
