Volume control on remote control for LG LCD
If the problem only happens when you use the remote and not with the volume buttons on the set(I presume it has them) then most likely something got spilled on the remote--if so it may be fixable.
Your question does not indicate if it does it with the volume buttons on the set.
If the set functions normally with the front buttons you have two choices: Have someone take the remote apart and clean it:
All these are infrared remotes that shine a light we cannot see at a receiver in the front of the set. If the remote is taken apart--takes some skill---cleaning will consist of cleaning the circuit board with denatured alchohol and cleaning the keypad===all the buttons on the remote are one large plastic mat with black coating on the bottom of each button;I usually when I get one apart (Have fixed hundreds) wash the back off under the buttons with dish soap and warm water using a tooth brush to carefully clean.
Then you dry the entire keypad and if needed use a hair dryer to get it completely dry. If something got spilled you will know it when you get it apart--if should lift right away from the circuit board--if you have to peel it off--you will see the residue of whatever was spilled on it.
Soda or coffee are the most common reasons; usually if a small spill only certain buttons will be affected.
IF THE REMOTE IS NOT YOUR PROBLEM you have a problem in the set with whatever circuit board processes the incoming REMOTE signal---YOU WANT TO HOPE IT IS THE REMOTE!

I have had to change my mainboard on my 1080p
If everything works ok except the PS3 on the TV then suspect the PS#. Is there any other device you can plug into the HDMI port if thats what you are using? If they work then the issue is the PS3 and not the TV. Please take a few moments to rate my answer. Thanks..
When watching a dvd and selecting zoom 1 and
the reason why you have different sizes is due to the resolution on the media. If your DVD player has a resolution upscale, you can set it to the max which should be 1080i or 1080p. this will give you the best picture. Regarding to the setting on your TV. you can go to menu, setting and picture. you can set your setting there for zoom and it will be like that for all your station. Note: if you do that, you will lose some of the edges when watching high resolution programing.
