KitchenAid Classic Stand Mixer Questions & Answers
Cannot insert grater attachment into front of KitchenAid all the way.
Since I do not have your mixer in front of me, here are my best guesses:
a. It can't happen, but since it does --
b. There is something inside the hub preventing the sttachment's shaft from going in all the way.
c. The square of the hub and shaft are not lined up with each other.
d. There is some sort of damage to the hub interior or to the attachment shaft.
e. The attachment shaft is no longer straight.
f. The thumb screw is now going in at an angle (other than 90 degrees).
I've now run out of ideas.
Can I buy new parts for the two dime-sized screws' inners? I removed them nd now the mixer wont work.
What you are describing is the two side screws on the side of the mixer motor head. Yes you can buy all new parts for whats behind those screws or you can just buy new "Charcoal" thing...which are called "The Brushes" If you buy new parts off ebay or from Kitchen Aid you will have one very small concern. There are four different ways to insert the brushes back into the machine but only one way will make the machine work right or work at all. The brushes are spring loaded into the machine the screws caps keep them in and pushing them forward, the brush end rests on the commutator portion of the armature (The Motor) and when the brushes do not touch that portion of the motor the machine will not work at all until they are put in the machine correctly. You will notice on the brushes that one edge is beveled, inside the brush holder is a small metal clip/piece that has been bent up and into the brush holder space, the beveled edge must go in so that it will slide past this bent metal, if it is inserted incorrectly then the metal piece will hold the brush off of the comutator and the electric feild will not create the spark / energy needed to operate the mixer. If you want to replace all the parts associated with the brushes and brush holder you will have to do a FULL tear down of the machine in order to get at the set screw that keeps the brush holder tube in place, and to do that you will have to take the machine entirely apart. I hope this helps. If not; get back to us with more info on the problem and we will FixYa
No power on kitchenaid mixer
Apart from checking a fuse, there is little more you can do. Did you notice a loss of power or burning smell the last time you used this? What make and model you have may help others identify a known problem with your machine.
Kind Regards, Dan.
The speed lever won't hold a speed
The spring attached to the speed control switch has come off or broken. Does the switch stay in one place when you move it or does the switch move about freely. I need a little more info to be more help.
Gears are stuck
You need to give us a little more help with this. The "gears are stuck" The first thing that comes to mind is an assumption that you cannot turn the planetary by hand. If that is the case then you have a gear stripped and it has locked up the tower pinion gear or the bevel gear. Both are inexpensive parts and are readily available at any service center or off the internet. With that said you have to determine if you want to fix it your self (you can do it its just time consuming the first time) it will require that you tear down the mixer to it's component parts. you will need to get new gear grease a new gasket and new replacement gears. Then you have to take the mixer apart, remove the old gear grease to get at the worn parts, take the gear housing apart to replace broken parts add new gear grease and gasket and then reassemble, you will more that likely also have to adjust the speed control plate to get the mixer turning at the proper speed again. The gear grease is the kicker, you will have to buy a whole can (30 Oz.) and you will only need 6 Oz to do the re-pack. all parts for the K45SS are available on the internet plus the cost of shipping. You will also need to go to the following site and download your parts list for the mixer, that will give you the proper parts number to order and a schematic to follow along.
http://www.kitchenaid.ca/assets/pdfs/literature/Repair%20Part%20List%20-%208212369.pdf next you will need a clear work area where you can layout the pieces of the mixer so that you can create an assembly pattern that will help you remember the way to put itback together. you will need a non metal hammer a flat head screwdriver a Phillips head screwdriver a drift punch two rolls of paper towels an empty trash can to dump the greasy paper towels about two hours of time and a calm nature. you will have to open the mixer to determine what parts you need, then you will have to order and wait for the parts to arrive and then do the work. Another option is to take or send your mixer to a service center for repair. if there is no center near you you will have to mail it, and the cost for the service center to repair and send back is going to be $150.00 plus, check to see if you have a small appliance repair shop locally it will probably save you $50.00. If both of those are options that you do not like then it is a DIY repair, that is an easy fix but takes time to get it done. check to see if you have a local shop that will sell you the parts that you need. that will eliminate some waiting time. but the first thing is to take the mixer apart and find out what gears are FUBAR. Now all of this is dependent on weather this is a gear problem or an electric problem that is why i opened with you need to help. What happened when you made the decision that the mixer was froze up? did it make noises? did you hear the motor running but the planetary dint turn? (The planetary is where you put the beaters on). did it smoke? does it make any noise when you turn it on Like the motor humms but nothing turns (That is a gear problem) So as you can see we need some help so we can help you. let us know as soon as you can so we can get you back up and baking.
After putting flower into mixing bowl large
Firstly, I think you mean "flour".
Put in your ingredients. Cover the mixer, head and bowl, with a dishtowel. Turn on mixer to "stir" (or lowest speed). But! Mix only for 1 or 2 seconds. Repeat this, with bowl covered, until flour is mixed in enough not to fly out.
Happy baking!
My wife's Kitchen Aid Artisan 325W mixer has
You need to adjust the mixer speeds. Obtain a copy of the KSM150 Repair Part List from
Kitchenaid.com. Remove the screw holding the End Cover and locate the three screws from
the Control Plate. All three (2 top left and right, and 1 bottom) must all be adjusted.
1. Loosen the lock nuts enough & Turn the 2 top screws clockwise until they cannot be turned
anymore. Leave the bottom screw alone for now.
2. Use a dab of white paint or paper whiteout to mark the positions of the Phillips screws.
3. Plug in your mixer and Set the speed selector to "Stir".
4. Turn each top screw One full turn couterclockwise (alternating between Left and Right)
Keep making one full turn at the time (for both left and right) until the motor starts running.
5. Put your hand near the Agitator shaft and allow it to brush your finger slightly. Use your
watch or clock and start counting the number of times the shaft touches your finger in
60 seconds. The correct count should be 60 RPM (Rounds Per Minute). If it is less
or more than 60, give each screw 1/4 turn counterclockwise or clockwise and start counting
again. Now tighten both lock nuts.
6. Set the speed selector to "6" and turn the bottom screw either clockwise or counterclockwise
to achieve a speed of 180 RPM.
For your reference, the planetary RPM's for the 5-qt. tilt-head Artisan Stand Mixer are as follows:
Stir speed - 60
Speed 2 - 95
Speed 4 - 135
Speed 6 - 180
Speed 8 - 225
Speed 10 - 280
