Gas or Electric?? Model number? (produced by Maytag, Amana, Norge, Admiral, Samsung or Whirlpool (all say Maytag on the back panel). 1. Does it have power from the house (yes, this happens)? 2. Is the exhaust vent blocked/restricted? (pull dryer away from the wall and unhook the venting.) 3. If above is okay, then you check each component in the heating circuit: heater, high limit safety, high limit cutout, cycling stat, motor switch, timer switch, door switch, temperature selector switch and (maybe) the fuse link (if it has one, on Whirlpool sourced units.) Details matter.

That sounds like a 'self test' start up. If it fails, you need a technician. Maytag dryers should not have magnets. Likely something loose in a load of clothes that lodge there. Remove and check for damage or torn felt seals.

The cycle timer may have failed.

if drum doesnt turn possible bad motor

First make sure the exhaust vent is clean. If too much heat is detected the thermostat switch will shut down. Could have been a bad connection at the plug.

if fuses blew something is shorted possible motor or safety circuit or heater element

check vent hose for blockage fuse should be in heater manifold

If the belt has grooves cut into it, then the grooved side goes onto the drum, and the flat side facing uppermost.

it might be the belt that turn the drum. if it doesnt have a belt and has wheels, more than likely its the wheels.

Disconnect the power to the Maytag dryer and wait 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, restore power and make a new selection. If the problem persists or the dryer will not operate, disconnect power once again and call Maytag for service.

4-WIRE SYSTEM CONNECTIONS

Remove the ground strap screw from the terminal block support. Fold the ground strap over so both ends of the ground strap will be attached to the center terminal block post.

Connect the neutral (white) conductor of the cord to the center (silver) post of the terminal block. Connect the grounding (green) wire of the cord to the terminal block support using the ground strap screw.

Connect the red and black wires of the cord to the outer posts of the terminal block.

Be sure the terminal block nuts are on tight. Secure the power cord in position. Tighten the strain relief screw(s) in order to clamp the strain relief to the cord. Replace the terminal block cover.
