Assuming you have not switched to Windows Vista with the new hardrive - as Mavis Beacon 17 does not work in that platform - then-
it sounds as though the file is corrupted. I would uninstall and reinstall the product. Unfortunately, difficult to do with out a cd or good original disk to start from. If you have your order number or purchase numbers when you bought your download, then customer support should help you get a clean download.

There is usually a small white plastic sticker with possibly a BARCODE and the SERIAL NUMBER on it ... ok IF this doesn't work [and you have already been able to install the software on your PC] try going to MENU/PROPERTIES ... and you should find your ACTIVATION CODE and probably the SERIAL NUMBER as well ... FAILING all else find a "TECHY" friend or computer friend/dealer who should be able to help you ...

It is illegal to give out activation or serial codes even if we had any, you need to contact the manufacturer or maker of the software to obtain a new code, with your proof or purchase and your disc, they may be able to recover your key.

What you're asking for is illegal to give away...

If you've lost your serial number you can retrieve it from the Broderbund site.

click start control panel Open User Accounts in Control Panel. On the Users tab, click the name of the user whose password you want to change, and then click Reset Password. In New password and Confirm new password, type the new password, and then click OK. Notes You can change passwords only for local computer accounts, such as guest, administrator, or accounts you create for your computer. You cannot change your network logon password in User Accounts. To change your own password, press CTRL ALT DELETE and then click Change Password

Please clean the discs in + manner. Meaning, take a soft cloth and rub it un-down and sideways and not in circular manner we usually do. Also clean the read/write head of the CD drive. It is the shiny blue dot. try running the discs in your friends computer to make sure they are fine and not damaged.
