Will a nikon n2000 turn on without a lens and film?

The camera should operate perfectly fine without a lens. It should also operate perfectly fine without film (other than for not taking any pictures, of course).I know this is stupid, but make sure the batteries are inserted in the proper direction. Then make sure the film advance mode selector around the shutter release button is not in the "L" position. L is for Lock, S is for single-frame, and C is for continuous. If you need a manual you may download a copy here.

N2000 will not Turn ON

Hi Oskarr900, The corrosion may have eaten away at small wires that are on the springs that hold the battery holder in the camera. Notice those wires go into the plastic camera body. If that has happened the camera will need to go in to Nikon. These cameras are only worth $90 or less so you may want to look into purchasing a used N2000.

I have a nikon N2000

So I assume you have changed the batteries and made sure there isn't any corrosion on the contacts. If your mirror is flipping up but no shutter, it sounds like a bad shutter. Check the shutter from the back, then from the front behind the mirror. Look for abnormalities or residue. It is a great camera and uses standard batteries (!) but the 1/2000 shutter has a half life like any other SLR. If you are going to throw it out you may want to open the back and use a q-tip to drip a couple drops of 90% alcohol on the top and bottom (and sides) of the shutter. As a last ditch, I throw cameras or lenses in the toaster oven at 200° for 10 min. and retry (take out batteries and film). At the least it will kill any fungus at the worst it hardens some lubricants. It does make you feel like you are doing some specilized scientific work before you toss it in the trash.

Battery?

Your camera is designed for four AA batteries. Make sure the positive and negative poles are correct. If it is like my Nikon N series camera bodies, there should be yellow labels inside the battery compartment to indicate polarity. The door is spring loaded. Don't over force it or you may brake it.

What type of exposure system

The N2000 has Program, Program Hi, Aperture-priority, and Manual exposure modes, with exposure lock and exposure compensation capabilities. It can TTL auto and manual with flash. The meter is full-aperture and center-weighted.The Program mode sets both the shutter speed and aperture for optimum exposure. You can adjust the exposure if you want to emphasize shutter speed or aperture. The Program Hi mode tries to set a higher shutter speed for action and/or long lenses. You can download a copy of the manual here if you want to know more about this camera.

Electrical fault, no lights or other response when

Hi tjambarker, sometimes this is an issue with the battery holder. On my N2000 I had the same issue I needed to disassemble the AAA battery holder clean it then, it worked. Another thing to be aware of is on the camera the springs that hold the battery holder in place have two wires that go into the camera. If there was any battery corrosion it sometimes will travel up those wires causing internal camera corrosion. Off to Nikon it goes. You may be better served purchasing a used one for less than $90.

Can't get my camera to advance the film.

Hi Susanabbott2, As long as you are using AAA batteries, unless you have the holder for AA batteries it should advance the film. Things to look at: With the batteries in camera turned on do you see the red display in the view finder, if not there is an electrical issue, if you do see it do the following. Open the camera back make sure the leader is pulled to the red marker on the lower right. On the camera back door is there the chrome springy thingy with the little roller? If not then as you close the camera back there is nothing to place tension on the film so that the sprockets can grab the film.

How do i turn on my nikon n2000

A real stumper, isn't it? The reason you can't find a on/off switch is that there isn't one. You turn the camera on by lightly pressing the shutter button, and it will turn off when it times out.

You can download a manual from http://www.butkus.org/chinon/nikon.htm
