Kenwood KVT-512 Car DVD Player - Page 6 Questions & Answers
Password code for kenwood kvt-512
The password code is something you set yourself by going into the settings. If there is a security code already set up it is because: A) you bought it used and the previous owner set it up...just ask them, or B) It came new from the factory with this settings error...call kenwood, or the place where you purchased.
I cant get the audio controls to unlock, the guy
When you go to your source select you should be able to chose standby. once the radio is in standby you need to go back to your settings menu, then you can unlock the sub control. Also, I am pretty sure that radio has an option in the audio controls for zone one or zone two. If it is on two zones, it disables your fader to adjust front to rear. Thats a great radio, but it is easier to write computer programs than operate it. Hope this helps some. If all else fails, stop by your local best buy, the guys in the install bay are usualy pretty cool about helping. Hope this helps.
Kenwood KVT-512 with bluetooth setup troubles
With my BMW I had to connect both the solid blue (pwr ant) wire and the blue with white stripe (p conn) to the solid blue wire from the factory harness.
It isn't obvious that either of these are needed as the KVT-512 has it's own power supply but the way most factory power amps are installed the power from the KVT-512 is not used and the car manufacturers power amp needs to be turned on.
If you are listening to the radio the pwr ant wire will turn on the power amp, this didn't seem obvious because the BMW doesn't have a power antenna. And when you are using the DVD player or the iPod connection you need the P Conn wire to turn on the car power amp as the ant pwr is disabled because you are no longer using the radio and Kenwood assumes you will not need the antenna so no power to this lead.
Solder all three wires together and you should have sound all the time.
Kenwood KVT-512 iphone compatibility
Just ignore the airplane mode prompt and if your wiring is correct everything should work.

I think I had a short circuit and now I cant get
try disconnecting it first and then reconnecting it . If it doesn't power on from there it may not necessarily be in the unit itself it could be something in the vehicle so you would want to take the unit it to a local stereo shop and have it tested.
Protect mode??
Check your speaker wire and terminals at the speaker, it's shorting. The receiver goes into protection to keep from causing damage to itself.
Please help
try resetting the unit if that dont work you may have contact ken wood for the security code for that model unit --hope that help you in the rite direction
Should i conect the dimmer wire to the positive or
The dimmer will usually be positive. If you are in America. Some places have a Positive Ground.
The dimmer wire should connect to the positive.
The only difference it will make is that the display will not light up, or it will with the dash lights.
There's no risk with that. Just be shure you have the right wire.
Test it on a permanent positive if neither side of the dimmer swithch works.
Touch screen doesn't work.
The password can be entered by setting the arrow buttons, if u know the password, or get kenwood to give their default password and check that the touch screen is not getting grounded, 'cos that's when it goes apparently, dead...sodeep
Cant get Audio Controls to unlock!
Put it in standby mode by pushing source. Then go to the menu and hit system setup. Select page 3 I thing and turn output from rear to sub. Now you should have control from the audio menu.
KVT-512 reverts to "CALL" screen.
In your wiring harness there is a brown wire posbily. I ran into a similar problem on a newer Chrysler vehicle. Make sure that brown in NOT hooked up and you should be ok.
How do i bypass the parking brake switch in order for my video to play
Hi,
That is safety feature that Do Not Watch DVD Picture While Driving. You can bypass that feature at your own risk. There is Wiring Harness at back of unit, find Light-Green wire in that harness, disconnect it from parking sensor and connect it to car body / dvd player body/ ground or join it with black wire of same harness.
You will see another harness at back of unit that has few RCA jacks that is input/ output harness and no need to touch it.
Below is an image of back of player and light-green wire is marked...
