Hi One of the most, noticeable reasons, of a video card heat, or any onboard device, its dust, or not compatible devices, or overpower device, ...some laptops un the ventilations have to be flush with air, to clean the fan, or some hard disk, has poor ventilation area. to reduce heating , clean the dust or don't put your laptop over a bed, or pillow, or carpets, just put over a flat place. Press F10 at the system startup. it will take you to CMOS (BIOS) settings. you can change the boot sequence. (you may need to read all the instruction on the page) (Some times it is + and - or even F5 and F6) Read the page carefully.

have you tryed just the mains with out the battery ,some laptops wont start if the battery is faulty, or if the fan is full of dust and dirt and it can not turn, your laptop will not start.

There isn't a sd card slot on the computer the best thing you can do is buy a usb sd card reader

Lost Windows password:

• Login as Administrator. Try with no password (load safe mode if you don't see Administrator). Press F8 during boot to access Safe Mode. XP only.
• Login as other user (if other user is available) and manage users. Must be an administrator.
• Reformat computer.

remove CMOS battery and after 5 minutes install the CMOS battery ,it will crack the bios password,you might be knowing where the CMOS is else i am just guiding you...i am providing you link to the manual that will give you 100% information for you CQ50

It happens sometimes because of slow internet or also check if your modem is not overheating so you can put it in well ventilated area to give you a better performance or also check it by doing a ping test.

Did you create a set of Recovery discs for this machine, before you wiped out Vista and installed Windows 7? There is a utility to do this and it relies on the original windows to work. When you formatted Vista, you erased the Recovery links from the windows partition, that allows the recovery to take place. The Recovery has to 'see' the original OS to confirm it is on the correct machine. It is known as a 'fingerprint' and is checked by the BIOS to make sure it is not being Pirated. If you have the key on the bottom, you may be able to download a new copy of Vista just for Compaq machines, and it will legally activate.

This may be the motherboard has failed, it happens more than most people think. There is no way to check it, but if you are advanced enough you can buy one and replace it, and not have to worry about reinstalling your operating system. Just a possibility, but that is what it sounds like to me.

To get into the BIOS try pressing F10 as soon as you switch on the laptop

Can you see what's on the screen if you hold it under a light? Did the screen die suddenly or were there more symptoms?

Can you describe the loud sound? Does it sound like the sound is coming from the HDD?
