Hello there, sorry to hear about the troubles you are having with the wireless connection, I can definitely help you out with that.

You are going to need to reinstall the driver, probably has an older version of the driver that is only partially compatible with Vista. I see this all the time, especially if the operating system was upgraded to Vista and not installed fresh. It's not huge issue, it is easily resolved.

You will need to head over to www.hp.com and click on support and drivers at the top, from there it will ask for your model number, make sure you put in the exact model number off the top or bottom of your laptop. Include the Pavillion TX part, this will take you to a page with all the drivers for your machine. One will be the wireless network card adapter, they will have a newer version that then one you currently have.

Download this newest version of the wireless driver, and run through the installation process, it should be pretty automated. It will probably have you reboot and hopefully upon coming up your issues will be resolved. If not, uninstall your wireless card from the device manager (right click my computer, properties, hardware tab, device manager), reboot the computer and let it re-find it.

Between these two things your problem should be alleviated. If it's not then it's very likely that there is a compatibilty problem between your wireless card and Vista. If the problem persists please give HP techinical support a call to see if they have anything in their knowledge base database concerning this issue with Vista and your hadware. Their number is 800-474-6836 if you need it.

If you have an extra usb keyboard available you should be able to use the laptop.

I would suggest going into control panel -- then devices -- check to see if there is an "explanation point" next to the keyboard device.

If not, right click on the keyboard icon and click update driver.

I've also selected "uninstall" for this device and restarted the computer. Many times windows will reload the keyboard driver. The current one may be corrupted.

No, You have Vista 64 bit. Vista 64 bit installs the x86 folder for 32 bit applications and installs them in that folder.

old PCs do that, for many reasons. but no PC told at all just HP. 40 years of PCs ,10000 + models nobody can guess ever. but I do have the answer, in pure generic form. did you buy the PC like that used and bad Wifi. ?

1. the wifi card is missing, as was super common 10+ years ago.
2. someone put in the wrong card, not from HP list
3. HP blacklists (bios blocks) none HP cards (wifi)
4. the card needs a driver to work if not it is dead or 1/2 dead.
5. the PC needs 1 more driver to make the wifi buttons all work , all buttons related, if not they are dead or act odd.
6. The OS is infected, no OS told at all, not one clue nor if upgraded the OS, and not vast drivers are wrong or missing, (classic)

bad news now your bricked it just like miillions did google bios update bricked my PC and cry. why are you here and not at HP.com only they can recover bios. they changed the rules now 10 time. so only they know this, and are pain to deal with.
