Where is the reset button on the router? NetComm NB604N?

Look on the back of your router where you plug in the ethernet ports, there should be a very small hole, the size of a paperclip. Press and hold for 30 seconds

I want to change the

Your model NetComm may have a pinhole RESET button at the back of the router. If so power up the router and press and hold the RESET button until the LEDs flash. The router will now be returned to the factory default settings with the default password. You can now go into the router's configuration to change the password etc.

I want to change the password given by my isp

in windows look for the network properties or simple do a IPCONFIG in the CMD command prompt and look at the default gateway. Type the IP of the gateway in your web browser, that will take you to the management interface of the router, login into the router and the look for the wireless settings once there just change the pass-phrase or key assigned by the ISP

can't be more specific with directions since not all the routers have the same way of been configure or the layout of the web interface is different.

My Acer laptop wont connect

3 very important things for you to know:

1. What is the make, model number, and operating system of your laptop?
2. What is the make and model of your wireless router?
3. Are you aware of whether or not your laptop is compatible with the particular type of wireless router you have in your home?

Assuming you are using any type of windows here are some fairly easy ways to troubleshoot connectivity issues:

First, make sure your hardware drivers are up to date via this linear method if possible:

Go into start menu, enter the "Control Panel"
In control panel find "Administrative Tools"
In administrative tools find "Computer Management"
Double clicking on this open a stand-alone window for [computer management]
From here you can go to "System Tools"---->"Device manager"

With device manager you can modify any device in your system.

Find your type of hardware and click the [+] to open the tree, then select the particular piece of hardware you are looking for. Simply right-click on the selected device and select "update driver software". If for some reason this option is unavailable you may alternatively enter the "properties" menu and from there click the "Driver" tab and select the "Update Driver" button.

You may then select the option to have windows search your computer and the internet for the appropriate driver automatically, or you can install the driver manually (recommended only for more advanced users, unless otherwise instructed to do so)

Assuming this is done or your hardware drivers were up to date in the first place, your wireless network adapted should undoubtedly be functioning normally. With all systems go you should attempt to connect to your network.

One of three things will happen:
A. No connection =(
B. Local only (not as bad)
C. Local and internet =D

Should you have no connection or limited connection i happen to know a common fix for common mistakes:

1: You must have a computer that is already connected to your network. Should this not be an option you can simply connect straight into your router with an ethernet cable.

2: Right click on the network notification icon in your taskbar (this is assuming you have followed step one)

XP - Select "Status"--->select "details"

Vista - Select "Connect to a network"--->right-click on [your network]---> select "status"---> select "details"

What you are looking for the IP address of your router labeled "IPV4 Default Gateway". For example mine is the same as most defaults "192.168.1.1"

You want to open a web browser (Internet explorer, Firefox (my personal preference), Netscape, etc.) and type the exact same number into the address bar. This should bring up your wireless router's setup page. Because of the amount of different hardware, this is not exact, but you will most likely be looking for a tab labeled "wireless" and then "security" or "wireless security".

A common mistake is not having everything set-up right between the computer and the router. You need to make sure that all of the above match between the two devices:

1. Security Type
2. Encryption Type
3. Network Security Key
4. Key index
5. Your SSID (network name) of course =)

With WEP or RADIUS the security key will be the corresponding transmit key. Anything else and you just need to make sure all the words and number match up.

Now then, Simply follow the steps for getting to the router page so you can find out what your set up actually is and compare it to your current connected network's properties
(Vista - Select "Connect to a network"--->right-click on [your network]---> select "properties"---> select "security" tab.)

Should you go through all of this and still have a connection problem a simple power-cycling (turning the power off for both the modem and router and then back on) should do the trick. (You can try this right from the start but it may take a while for both the modem and router to fully recover, thus delaying your connection and prolonging the problem)

If all else fails I'm sorry to say that there seems to be intermittent problems with multiple computers running different versions of windows (mainly if one is vista for some reason) and trying to connect to the same router, and i would assume that if you get to this point to no avail we shall hear form you again very soon =)

If you are really desperate you can check into updating the firmware on your router as well.

Cheers if it helps! and cheers if it doesn't but you tried anyway!

Unable to to set up

First:
In order to get your router back to the original settings, you must push in the reset button (usually on the back of the router) for somewhere between 10 and 30 seconds depending on the router. You may need a pin or something small to push in the button, because it can be recessed. Once you have reset the router, the username and password will be changed to the defaults, admin and password, respectively. One thing you must remember is that resetting the router will change all of the router settings back to the factory settings. This means you will lose all of the changes you made since you got the router. Make sure to write down any things you've changed, so you can change them back after the reset. Also, I recommend updating to the latest firmware after the reset.

Second:
There a great article at General Router Setup.

Connecting to router

Hi,
Just wanted to confirm the model of your router it is a NB5PLUS4W. Now you put the IP address 196.168.1.1 in your browser right? What exact error do you receive? Did you hook your computer directly to the router with an Ethernet cable? You will have to connect directly to the router to use the IP address. Then you will be able to set up the wireless settings and connect to the wireless network. It is fairly complicated but don't let it stress you. p.80 of the manual explains how to set up the wireless connection on the router. Once you access the router its fairly straight forward. If you have any questions please let me know. If you do have problems. Please give me as much detail as possible about the specific errors.
Thank you,
Lee

Port Forwarding on NB7Plus4W router

Some times you will need to open the Logical Ports on the router.
These are the logical ports.
For this you will need to open the set up interface of the router.
Once you open the set up interface of the router, you will be able to find the settings on the router where you can open the ports for the particular program.

If you are opening the ports for a special device in your network, then you must know the IP address of that device.
For example, wireless camera, DVR, X-box, Play station ...
You can choose the option PORT FORWARDING for a special device application.
If you just want to open the ports for all the network, then you can choose PORT TRIGGERING

For example ,
You have a Linksys wireless router and you want to open the ports for the X-box.
You have opened the set up interface of the router. You will see Application and Gaming TAB at the top.
If you click on that tab you will find different Sub tabs.
Click on Port Triggering => Here you can open the port numbers for the network.
Click On Port forwarding if you want to open the ports for a special device in the network.
Click Save settings once you open the ports on the router.

Some of the recommended port numbers for different applications :

IMAP ==> 143 SMTP : 25
HTTPS ==> 443 HTTP : 80
DNS ==> 53 FTP : 21
SNMP ==> 161 TELNET : 23
XBOX ==> 53, 80-88, 3074
PS3 ==> 80, 443-447 ,5223, 3478-3479, 3658, 10070-10080.

1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable.
2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address.
3. Enter the router setup, login and password
4. Change the admin password
5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA).
7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router.
8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.
