Check in opening and see if paper switch is stuck.

how often have you lubricated it since you have had it?

Nope haven't fixed it but cannot afford to pay for a FIXIT subscription. Can buy a new cheap shredder that will do rather than spend $ fixing old one.

When I recieved your reply to check the micro switch I found the contacts had built up a little
arcing on the points, I then filed the points and cleaned them with alcohol and put it back together
It works like new. If it bothers again i may try to get a new switch for it I owe you a large thanks

check the cutter slot, there should have a micro switch with a level, that detect the paper when the paper is in the slot.
the micro switch may be dirty or some thing is preventing it from starting.

maby the blades are blunt thats what it sounds like to me i had this problem with my shredder
