Northstar Generator 20 Hp, 13,000 Watt, Gasoline Questions & Answers
I have a North Star
Filter is fine showing half full. it will never fill up fully.
The card is your issue....it needs to be taken apart and cleaned with a good carb cleaning solution...one or more of the ports are probably clogged with gum and varnish from the old fuel.
Also check the needle and seat attached to the float make sure they are not sticking. Btw, I’m available to help over the phone in case u need at

Hi Raymond,
The recall was for Northstar generators with Tecumseh engines. The recall was for the Tecumseh engine which had a badly routed fuel line. Fires were reported.
According to the article, only 8 and 10 hp engines were involved.
Here is the web address for the gov recall: http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml03/03046.html
Copy and paste this into your browser and the article will open up for you.
Hope this helps. If it does, I'd appreciate your vote. Thanks,

How loud is the NorthStar 13KW trifuel generator ?
Probably around 76to 78db if I were to guess . Its not alway best to be adding extra mufflers to these engines that were designed with the one they have . Adding mufflers change back pressures and temps on exhaust and effect the performance. Very nice generators. Hope this helps.....

Honda 5500 Generator
If you have checked the stator, rotor and brushes and they appear alright then it is probably a voltage regulator. The honda dealer can run a test and confirm the problem at very little expense. It cost me 25 dollars Canadian to preform the test and it was well worth the money because you cannot return electrical parts and they can be very expensive. Have a great day!

Does not automatically idle up when demand for power
Check your idle solenoid by applying 12Vdc. If it moves then the solenoid is fine. This means you will need the idle control board, or in most cases the idle board might be integrated with the main control board, which means that the main control board will have to be replaced.

Cranks fast but wont start
Hi, You did a good job of diagnosing your problem. Gas in bowl and dry plugs, starts with fluid, But, to quote you, "won't go through carb" . If you feel confident, you should disassemble and clean the carb, as that is going to be the problem. As a tip, if the genset is going to sit make sure to turn off the fuel flow to the engine and run till the engine dies. They do not like to sit any length of time with fuel in the carb. Good Luck, this should Fixya!

I have a North Star Model 5500 belt driven generator. I am using
Hi there,
Yes it is very possible that you blew 1 or more diodes in the rotor when you overrevved the generator. You also likely shorted the MOV devices that go across the diodes as well. What happened is that the over speed of the rotor caused it to make a much higher voltage than it was designed for and something had to give. I'd suggest that you also look at the capacitor that connects to the stator windings (it's a little like a voltage regulator), you've probably exceeded its voltage rating.
This is pretty much why there are governor mechanisms on generators, much more than 20% or so overspeed makes nasty things happen.
