How to test stator
You will need a very high quality ohm meter that can account for test lead resisitance. Stator wire leads are ohmed right off the stator and their value is generally low 0.8 or less ohms (each generator model and windings is different) and needs comparing with a specific model factory service manual. Temperatore also affects this reading. Often best left to a pro with a low impedendance meter or a device called a wheatstone bridge, as the resistance is often too low to see on a conventional meter

How many appliances can u run off a coleman 5000 generator
It depends on the appliance wattage and type, IE inductive loads like motors, HVAC compressors etc are harder on it. You didn't mention the 120V btu's but if the unit is running correctly and has no or light other loads on it, it should start it. be aware that it takes about 6 times the current to start the HVAC that it does to run it, so how much other loads are on the generator (base load) is critical

Fuel line is clogged
? If it is blocked the only thing to do is completely remove it and blow out with compressed air. Don't do that with it still connected to the carb, or you will damage the carb needle and float assy.

Want to add 240volt outlet to generator
You CANNOT do this, USA 240V is derived from a poly phase scenario, IE 120V line to neautral and 240V line to line, UK 240V is derived from 1 line to neutral it will not work unless you power a transformer

Engine lugs down under load
Do a compression test on the cylinder, but even better take to a small engine shop and have them do a leakdown test. This is better and will give you a good idea of valve and ring conditions. It doesn't cost much to do a leakdown test.

What is the stator
The stator is the outside part of the generator with the windings. The rotor is the part that turns inside the stator. Robert

Manual for model 185432
Hi Keith, I have searched Coleman's Powermate website and I cannot find your model, it doesn't even come up on their search engine. Google searches for just the number 185432 will bring up information for a 9 HP Vanguard engine. If That helps, here is a link from Partstree.com
http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=briggs_and_stratton&mn=185432-0271-E2 If that doesn't help I would call Coleman's customer service and ask them if they would mail you one. It could also be possible that they are using a different number on their Powermate website.Good luck, Michael Burke.

PM0557523 7500 WATT Vertex Coleman missing
There are at least two AVRs for this generator. The original AVR has the diodes mounted on an external heat sink. The updated AVR has the diodes mounted directly on the circuit board. I have a schematic of the original model with the external diodes but it doesn't have the values or parts on the schematic. I will be more than happy to e-mail you a copy of what I have.

I have a Coleman Powermate 5000 that has a Tecumseh motor and is very hard to start. Can I add a electric starter and if so which one?
Hi John, I hate to tell you this but Tecumseh has gone out of business.Northern tools does have a starter kit item # 7005, but it does not include a solenoid, switch and battery. The kit sells for 129.99 +sh plus cost of battery, switch and solenoid. You must also have a toothed flywheel. You are looking at $200.00 plus to get this done by doing it yourself. If I where in your shoes I would save my money and concentrate on what is causing the difficulty with starting. I would be willing to bet that 99.9% of your problem lies with the ethanol that is now added into the gasoline you are using. Ethanol wreaks havoc with older small engines, it causes deterioration to fuel lines, gaskets and float valve needles. The gas has a shelf life of about 30 days, by then the ethanol has absorbed moisture from the air and sinks to the bottom of the tank. Just think of the way oil floats on water, that is basically what is happening in the tank on your generator. Now for the good news. Get rid of all the gas in the generator, change your fuel line to Tygon an ethanol safe material. If you are mechanically inclined, give the carburetor a thorough cleaning. If you are not sure about cleaning the carburetor, I highly recommend a product called Sea Foam. Get the spray can and follow the instructions on the can. With a small amount of new fuel start the engine and start spraying a small amount of Sea Foam directly into the carburetor, do not spray so much that it stalls the engine. DO NOT DO THIS IN AN ENCLOSED SPACE. The Sea Foam will produce a tremendous amount of smoke and I stress the word tremendous. The Sea Foam while cleaning the carburetor also removes carbon fouling in the engine and burns it, hence the smoke. Run the engine until it's out of gas. Store the generator when it's empty. I can't say enough about Sea Foam it has worked wonders for me. Getting ethanol free gas. Check out this website pure-gas.org I'm not sure where you live but if your close to a marina or a local small craft airport you can get ethanol free gas which has a much longer shelf life.Ethanol is so disastrous that the F.A.A. has banned it from use in small aircraft. Your cost to this will be under $20.00 and worth every penny. You should have nice smooth starts from now on. If it starts giving you trouble after awhile hit it with the Sea Foam again, and remember to store it empty. Good luck,Michael Burke
