Poulan 1630 16" Chain Saw Questions & Answers
Bar oil leaking after use
Release the chain brake, back off the chain adjustment screw several turns, then remove the side cover and the bar/chain. Clean the engine side case where the bar fits to and run the engine for a few moments--oil should ooze out of the side port in the engine. If ok, then clean the removed parts including the two small channels in the drive end of the bar that convey oil out to the chain groove on each side. Reassemble everything and then run the tip of the bar near some cardboard for several moments at speed--it should throw off a thin line of oil onto the board. Unless you have a leaking oil line or the tank is split, you should have minimal leaking problems. Hope this helps!

My chain wont stop when i let off gas
Turn the T screw CCW until the chain stops turning at idle but not so far that the engine stalls when going to idle. If the screw has no effect on idle speed, investigate the small spring on the throttle arm of the carburetor for damage or disconnect. You may have to clean the trigger assembly of sawdust if nothing else helped. Be sure to make notes when disassembling the mechanism to be able to replace the parts correctly. Hope this helps!
Cannot get chain back on
Slide the bar on the studs all the way to the left, or rear of the chainsaw, and feed the chain around the motor sprocket, THEN along the top of the bar to the right, and around the bar's sprocket at the right end of the bar, if this doesn't work, report back. This is the original bar and chain correct?
DOES THIS BAR HAVE A SPROCKET TIP?
It should have unless the bar has been changed. Look closely at the tip and you should see portions of a small wheel as you turn the chain by hand.
Maintenance after use
Check the chain oil rate by running the saw tip at high speed near some cardboard for a few moments. A thin line oil should appear on the cardboard. If ok, then set the chain tension so that the chain doesn't droop from the under side of the bar, yet not so tight that it is hard to pull the chain by hand. Oil the sprocket tip bearing if the bar has one. If the machine sees a lot of use, it will help to remove the bar and chain, then clean the rear oil passages in the bar, especially the small holes that run from the large oil holes out to the chain groove. Turn the bar over at intervals to even the wear on the bottom edge. Keep the teeth sharp for less effort when cutting. Clean or replace the air filter regularly. Remove the spark plug on occasion to check the condition of electrodes and insulator (which should be a light to medium tan color). Electrode gap should be 0.020" Hope this helps!
Doesn't want to start. Replace carb and ran for
The spark should be blue and snappy. Try a new plug--any help? If not, it may need a new ignition module. Check the flywheel magnets--they should be quite strong. The module gap with the magnets underneath the poles should be about business card thickness. Check the air cleaner and muffler for plugging. Hope this gets it running!
Chainsaw motor won't turn all the way around, only
Remove the muffler, spark plug and inspect the cylinder if there is nothing loose atop the piston it must be in the crankcase. Might be worth looking under the starter cover too. The most likely cause is something loose above the piston or in the crank case.
Did you use a rope as a piston stop? Did you make certain the piston was above the exhaust port?
