MOWER WON'T START

sounds like you need to drop the bowl on your carburetor and clean the Jet.Take the 1/2" bolt out of the bottom of the Carburetor Bowl. Look at it. It has two holes close to the Bolt Head. 1 small hole down the center of this hollow bolt and possibly a real tiny hole at the end of the bolt where the Threads stop. Make sure they are cleaned out and not clogged. screw it back in and see if that solves teh problem. Use a spray can of Carburetor cleaner and a small wire to clean the Jet holes

Wont start

Since you changed the spark plug, you obviously know how to get it out. Take it out again, and install the spark plug wire back on it. Now, hold it with an INSULATED pair of pliers or channel locks. Hold the spark plug against the head of the mower, to ground it out, and have someone pull the start rope and see if there is a spark arcing across the end of the plug. If not, remove the plug from the wire, and gently insert a round tip screwdriver (like a phillips head) into the spark plug wire. Now, hold that screwdriver withing an 1/16 inch from the cylinder head of the mower. Have someone pull the rope to start it. If you get a spark between the screwdriveer blade and the cylinder head, you are good for that. Then, you have a fuel problem.
What most usually happens is, the gasoline evaporates in the carburetor after a few weeks of sitting, and turns to a gummy deposit. Then, it will no longer work until it is cleaned out so gasoline will flow through it. 2 solutions. One, start and run the mower every 2 or 3 weeks to keep it from gumming up. 2, add a gasoline additive that will keep that from happening. Stores have lots of additives, but I don't know of the name of one that is exactly what you need.Be blessed.

My 22" MTD Yardman push

These inexpensive mowers are not made for large scale mowing. They're set to run as fast as they do and have low compression (read that as low power also) to make them easy to start and operate. About the only thing you can do to make it work better is keep the air cleaner clean, use fresh gas and keep the blade sharp so it cuts the grass easier. Mowing more often also means less cuttings under the deck so it works more efficently.
