Black & Decker Black and Decker & Grass Hog Electric Trimmer Questions & Answers
My black and decker edger cannot start
Ok, the first thing I check is the exhaust hole in the unit. Spiders and wasps like to build their nest inside the muffler hole. I have had this happen many times. Then you should replace the spark plug every year, as they will corrode when sitting and will not spark when under compression. The next step is to check to see if it is getting fuel. Is the plug wet, pull it out and check it, then check to see that the plug is getting spark, by inserting Phillips head screwdriver into plug wire and hold 1/2 inch from cylinder head and pull the rope. There should be a blue spark. Also if the gas has been in it for a while drain out old gas. ( This should be done at the end of season each year to prevent gelling in carburetor). Then replace with fresh oil and gas mixed with Sta-bil, this is a brand name gel dispersant and stabilizer. This is available at most parts stores. Now pump the bubble to fill carb. with fuel Make sure there are no leaks in the fuel line going to and from the bubble pump. If there is replace the line and or bubble pump. Now try to start the unit. Good luck, if you have no spark get back to me and I can walk you through the steps to diagnose no spark condition.
Instructions for replacing electric switch?
The switches probably have to be bought from B & D. Look up their web site with the model number and ask what the switch will cost. They are a real bugger to take apart. You have to be really careful since everything is so compact.
