LG DLG5988 Gas Dryer - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
Why does my dryer end its cycle early?
depending on what type of model. there is a moisture sensor inside the dryer. when you use any cycle other than time dry. if it is a small load ( 2 -3 shirts) it may not touch that cycle. making the machine think that things inside are dry and cut the time short. you can try time dryer and see if that helps. to check if moisture sensor on you dryer is working some models will have a test mode to make sure its sensing. try pressing more time button, then less time button back and fourth. all lights should come on. then you can open door. and when put your hand across the moisture sensor usually near the lint trap. you should hear a beep. to indicate that its reading moisture, meaning good..
LG DLG5988W Gas Dryer (NO HEAT)
I'm pretty sure that the cooling light is always on and blinks when it is cooling. I look at my brother's and he has the EQ bar and it acts the same.
Dismantling my dryer
Great detailed directions on disassembling the LG Dryers on You-Tube. Much more helpful and accurate than a narrative from me.
Also, you can run the dryer with it partially disassembled to observe what is happening and to troubleshoot the problem.

If it is electric it is probably the heating element. If it is gas it is most likely the gas selenoids.
How to remove front panel of DLG5988W
You need to remove the the top panel first. Take out the three screws at the top of the back panel, just under the lip of the overhanging top panel. This will allow you to slide sharply, the top panel to the rear a couple of inches and then you can lift it off. You will need to then remove the control panel, 4 screws. The control panel is held in place with those 4 screws and then is clipped into the dryers frame via clips on the back of the control panel. These clips are located on back of the panel, at the top. Once you finagle the clips loose, you tip the panel toward away from the front and the clips at the bottom of the panel will allow you to lift it away from frame. There is not much slack in the wiring to work with, but I was able to lay the panel on top. Next, you should open the door and remove the two srews you can see, at about the 4 and 8 o'clock position. Then look to the top of the fron panel and remove the visible screws that were hidden by the control panel. Then tip the top away from the frame and unplug the door open switch. Now you should be able to lift the front panel off and have access to remove the lint path. I believe it is just 2 more screws and you can remove that to clean it out. This is as accurate a description as I can remember, I just did this yesterday.
Dryer door does activate switch when closed.
The switch could be loose thus not allowing to properly engage.the door may be slightly warped . Try flexing it back. Check and see if the door meets the body when shutting it almost all the way. The distance should be equal at the top as is the bottom.
