Le code

LE indicates a fault with the motor on the appliance.

LG suggest you switch off, wait for a minute, unplug the appliance.

Wait 15 minutes then plug it back in again.

Try the machine again.

If it's still faulty, you can try changing the Hall Sensor in the motor, this can sometimes cure the problem.

Unplug the machine and remove the rear cover. There are 4 Philips head screws. Take them out and remove the rear cover.

You should now see the rear of the motor, which is mounted to the back of the drum.

In the middle is a large bolt which holds the stator cover.

You'll need a 17mm socket and a ratchet to remove this bolt.

Remove the stator cover and place aside.

Toward the bottom-left, you will see a couple of wire bunches held to the motor by three screws. One holds a metal bracket, one actually holds a ground wire, and the last is through a plastic bracket toward the bottom. Remove these three screws and don't lose them.

Through the motor there are 6 bolts holding it onto the back of the drum assembly.

You'll need a 10mm socket and ratchet to remove them.

You will now have the motor off the back of the drum.

Disconnect the two wire harnesses from the motor.

Looking at the surface of this motor that was facing the DRUM (not the outside), you'll see two small pieces clipped onto it, toward the bottom.

The sensor you are looking to replace is the one that looks like a kitchen magnet.

It is attached by small clips. You'll see how it goes on. It's easy to remove.

Go to google and search for part number 6501KW2002A.

This will bring up an LG sensor assembly.

Double check with the supplier that this is the sensor for your appliance.

When you receive the sensor, simply reverse steps 1 through 5.

Once re assembled, try the machine again.

If still the same after this you'll need to replace the motor and/or control board.

Is this a new installation?

In new installations, this error can sometimes present because of a miscommunication between the control panel and the wash motor. In this instance, the washer simply needs to be reset.

Step 1: Unplug the washing machine.

Step 2: While the washer remains unplugged, press and hold the [Start/Pause] button on the front panel for 5 seconds.

Step 3: Plug the unit back in, and run a rinse and spin cycle to test if the LE code is cleared.

Has a large load size been used with a gentle wash setting?

Gentle wash cycles such as Perm Press, Delicates, Hand Wash, and Wool/Silk should only be used for smaller loads. Because the cycles are more gentle while tumbling and spinning, too many items in the drum can register as an issue with the motor. In this instance reset the unit and run a test rinse and spin cycle.

Has the washer been overloaded?

Single bulky items or large loads can add extra weight to the drum and place stress on the motor. Remove some of the clothing and restart. If the issue is still present after a few items have been removed, unplug the washer for 30 minutes to allow the motor to cool and then restart the cycle.

NOTE: Make sure the drum is not overloaded

Are there soap suds visible in the drum?

Over-sudsing is the main cause of LE error codes. Using non-HE (high efficiency) detergents or too much detergent will cause stress on the motor. In addition, detergent residue can also cause leaking and odor. Follow these steps to resolved an LE error code caused by over-sudsing.

Step 1: Unplug the washer and allow the unit to sit for 30 minutes to give the suds time to dissolve.

Step 2: Plug the washer back in and press [Power] to turn on the washer.

Step 3: Do not choose a washing cycle. Press the [Spin Speed] key until "No Spin" is selected.

Step 4: Press [Start/Pause] to begin a drain only cycle.

Step 5: After the drain only cycle has completed, remove the clothing items from the machine. Turn the power back on and select [Rinse and Spin] and then press [Start/Pause]. This will remove excess soap suds and light residue from the drum. Repeat this step until no visible suds are in the drum of the washer.

First it wouldnt release the lock, then it wouldnt

It most likely would not release the door lock because the water level was too high. Open the access door at the lower left on the front of the washer and drain the remaining water using the small hose there. Now, unscrew the big knob there and pull out the attached filter. Clean out filter and replace. If filter was not obstructed, replace pump motor.

Machines sshuts down mid way through wash cycle

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

The washer shuts down mid way as it was unable to drain because of clogged drain hose or the pump not working. You can take off the bottom acess panel by removing three torx screws and then take out the pump cap and clean it well, make sure you have towels ready as lots of water will come out. After it is cleaned the problem should be solved or the drain pump might need replacement. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

My machine stops and gives

First try unplugging the machine for a few minutes and then retry a cycle. If you still get the LE error:

The Hall sensor (part number 6501KW2001A) has failed. The hall sensor is rather easy to replace, and is covered by a seven year part warranty (in the US). Take the back cover off. Take the big nut off and remove the motor rotor. Remove the bolts holding the motor windings. Remove the electric plug on the sensor and unclip it from the motor winding. Snap new sensor on and reassemble if you have any further questions message me back Thanks again Rick and sorry dont know why its typeing this way

Causes of washing machine smell. What will remove the stink?

The first thing to do is to CHECK IN AND AROUND THE RUBBER DOOR BOOT (called a bellow) for small articles of clothing (like socks and underwear) that may have gotten lodged in behind the rubber. Pull the rubber back where it meets the wash tub and look behind it. It is common for small items to get stuck here, become forgotten and start to mildew. You should check this area after each wash and clean it periodically to get rid of the formation of soap scum, mold, and mildew. HINT: When you get ready to wash a load of towels, take a dirty towel and clean the door boot thoroughly (including the areas behind the rubber). Immediately place the towel in the wash and run it on a sanitary cycle. This way you eliminate the need for cleaning rags.

PERIODICALLY RUN THE WASHER ON A CLEANING CYCLE. Place the washer on the hottest setting you have (usually a Sanitary cycle) with nothing but bleach in the wash tub. Some newer models actually have a "Clean Cycle" available now just for this purpose. This helps keep the wash tub, drain lines and pump sanitized.

CHECK AND CLEAN THE DRAIN PUMP FILTER. Accumulations of debris in the drain pump filter can also cause odors. HINT: If you own a shop vac, pull the drain hose from the standpipe at the wall and pull a vacuum on the line. This will drain any residual water left in the tub, pump and drain lines BEFORE you remove the drain pump cover. This will prevent a messy clean up later.

LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN IF POSSIBLE. When not in use, leave the door open to allow the tub to air out and to keep mold and mildew from forming on the door bellow. I know this may not be desirable in some households with small children. If too much mildew forms on the rubber and it cannot be removed, replacement of the bellow may be required.

NOTE: This problem is common with front loader style washing machines. The doors on these machines have an air tight/water tight seal that is great for sealing the washer during the wash cycle, but can be terrible for collecting small garments and for not allowing the tub to properly air out when not in use. Following these simple preventive measures can go a long way towards preventing harmful mold and mildew, and towards extending the life of the door bellow and pump.

Lg from front loading washer

Hi- If it smells like mold then it is most likely the Tub Boot (bellows). This is the large rubber gasket that goes around the front of the washer basket. This is a huge issue with front loaders and there is really no solid remedy. You can run your hand inside the folds and see if there is a bunch of refuse in there that is stinking. Usually one will see black mold all over the rubber. A diluted bleach solution can help a bit, just be careful not to pierce the gasket or you will have a flood when the washer runs. Really the best remedy it to replace the rubber but this is often not a cheap part and often takes at least an hour for the tech to do. If the smell is more of an electrical smell (burnt rubber, plastic) then I'd get someone out to look at it. The motor or one of the electrical controllers may be shorted out. If this is the case I wouldn't use it until you determine the cause.

My LG front load washer WM1812 CW will not pump

The LG error code OE simply means "the pump is blocked". Presumably the water isn't being emptied properly.
As with all error codes it is possible that there is a cause other than the exact description in the error code explanation - but basically this error means as far as the washing machine is concerned it thinks the water isn't pumping out. A pump, or filter blockage is the most common cause but it could be caused by other faults such as a faulty pump, or even a blockage in the drain hose or somewhere else in the system etc.

LG has some information on this error code..
