Cartridge replacement is pretty straightforward so it should be no problem to do it yourself. The one you have probably has a bad washer.

The problem is most likely with "the back pressure from the flow restrictor in the showerhead causing the spool in the cartridge to sense a false pressure drop. This is forcing the spool to shift, restricting a full hot water temperature from coming out." Believe it or not, I got this information from Moen. Their solution was to send out a valve without the multi settings of the original and that didn't work very well. I can only tell you that I used an older showerhead without the water saver feature and the valve and cartridge worked fine. The problem your having is with the cartridge/showerhead combination and short of using an older showerhead there is not a satisfactory solution. Maybe your plumber has a better solution.

Call moen and give them your model no. they will send you a new cartridge free of charge. if you can't wait local stores like lowes will have them. Turn off your main water shut off valve and take off handle, then with some pliers take off brass ring, the cartridge will pull out. First notice the notch it rests in and notice where the hot water adjustment disc is. Assemble the new one the same way, put some vasolene on orings and reassemble. hope this helps.

the diverter is stuck. you have to move it up and down to free it up. the diverter is the mechanism attached to the tub spout that switches the water from shower to tub. you may also need a new diverter if fiddling with it doesn't work.
How do I remove cartridge from at least 20 year
Use little tool (plastic) that comes with new cartridge, in center, and push in and turn with wrench on square end.
It has to bite in to cartridge, and as the cartridge turns, it will start to move outward. You'll see how sleeve where cartridge sits in, is shaped live a "V" sort of, and as the cartridge turns, top and bottom brass pieces of cartridge follows that "V" and lifts itself out, far enough to get hold with pliers, and wiggle and pull. Sometimes takes a little patience, and maybe the odd curse word, but should come out.
