If the BIOS cannot detect the hard drive, then it could faulty.
If this laptop is new, then it is still under warranty, take it back to the supplier for a warranty repair or a replacement.
If you try to repair it, you may void your warranty.

I have a feeling that it has been overheating for some time and this explains the shutting off. Overheating is the killer of laptops, caused by dust and fluff build up in the cooling fan and copper heatsink / radiator areas of the laptop.
(Assuming the battery is charging, the adaptor is sending current to the laptop (check this by getting someone to use a multimeter with the red probe set to the internal jack pin and the black to the external part of the jack and at a DC range of 20 volts.)
Your only option now is to have the laptop stripped to clean out the heatsink and fan assembly, not hard to do if you take your time and see if that works. You may be fortunate and the processor and graphics chip may not have been damaged by overheating, however, preapre for the possibility that the motherboard may need replacing

your laptop is the same as mine and has no drivers to install but it also came with nothing to use it with unless using chat client with it good luck

I would replace it if it had written before. go to compaq's website they can give you the correct part to replace it.

Check ur sound card information by doing this

It is possible that you have a faulty display, can you connect your notebook to an external monitor?
you will need a Monitor and a VGA cable (the same cable you use to connect a normal PC to a monitor).

after you conect the notebood to the monitor start your notebook. you should be able to see the boot process on the monitor, if not you may have to tell your notebook to use the external monitor. you can do this by pressing the "fn" key on your notebooks keyboard and at the same time pressing the key that cycles the display output. I will try to get a picture for you.

Dear sir, I purchased a new laptop compaq presario c700. When I tried to install os it is booting from cd but it is not recognising harddisk. I checked in BIOS but I didn't find the option where to find harddisk. So please provivide the solution

thebest way to take care of this and what most people do not do is to boot the computer into safe mode with administrator options then run your antivirus program on that side and let it run fully
I highly recommend malwarebytes free edition and avg free edition for any virus both of these have
Helped me get many computers going the right way
also run malwarebytes always in safe mode

That's weird!

Not sure why it's happening but I would recommend you going into the Device Manager and uninstalling both keyboards and then restarting the computer.

Let me know if that fixes the problem.

Pls replace your memory with a good one and if the problem continue, replace the processor.

look son ,you have to do a recovery,you got no option sometimes anyway from this you will be able to tell if you have some sort of corrupted sectors or whether you have a serious unrepairable chip failure(too expensive to repair ,for instance)

Sounds like the LCD is failing/failed. Hook up a desktop monitor and see if you have the same problem.
