In general, a basic laptop warranty and service support should at least give you:

• 1-year of protection from the date of receiving the laptop
• Hardware support for defects in a laptop material or workmanship

It's because your connection speed is too low!

please clarify forced installation of ur sound drivers, and if anything try reinstalling windows xp, and/or your sound drivers normally.

try going into devices and uninstalling your sound driver and reinstalling it before doing the above solution - may just fix it.

try reinstalling your mouse/touch pad drivers, if that doesnt fix, reinstall windows after u backup ur personal effects, if that doesn't fix, chances are its a physical problem, if you have the expertise, pop it apart and get to the mouse pad itself, usually built into the top, check to make sure the cable is fully pressed into the connection, then reassemble it and try again.

if all else fails, buy a new computer

What I recommend is you remove everything you could possibly remove from the laptop (HDD, mems, cd rom, wifi cards, etc) just to check if it will turn off even when it's not booting or posting. Try turning it on with just the charger and WITHOUT the battery and see if it stays on. If it doesn't, then most likely the mobo itself is the problem.

1. Identify the VGA port on the laptop (check all sides) It'll look like this:
2. Connect your Monitor cable to this port and turn it on.
3. Now you need to switch your laptop display to the external monitor. Identify the Function key (F1 to F12) that has a monitor icon on it. Press Fn + that function key with the monitor icon. Wait 5 to 10 seconds and check if the display comes on on your monitor. If not press the key combination again.
   

Make first boot device as your CD ROM by entering in to the BIOS -- > Boot Device Priority. To enter into BIOS either try F2, DEL, F10. then after insert the CD in to the drive and then you can notice this on a black screen " Press any key to boot from the CD" then press Enter or any key and then follow the instructions as suggested on the Setup of Windows XP . Now you can format your laptop.

You can install XP over Vista if you want. You should be able to get the drivers as well. I believe the instructions for this (if you need them) can be found at HP (Compaq).

Be very certain this is what you want to do before you start. Are you having trouble with your present configuration? It may be easier to fix your trouble than change your OS.

You may want to go to www.pcpitstop.com and have your computer scanned for problems before you start. This is a free service. If you go ahead with the install, go back to PC Pitstop and have it scanned.

You have the original software, correct?

XP , you can go to start, accessories, system tools, system restore. Pick a date you want to roll back to and run it.

Let me ask you ... do you do regular maintenance? Cleaning temp files and registry ? If you dont, these will make a major impact on how your computer runs.

I use CClean, a free to use utillity. I also use Comodo Regclean another good one. If you will go to www.pcworls.com and search Spybot - Search and Destroy, you can get an excellent tool to remove any spy ware you may have on your computer as well. Try these things before you do a restore. Also do a disk defragment.

Copy and paste into top of browser all drivers right there and your model number should be on the under side hope this helps

go onto the hp.com website and download the drivers from there. Without the precise model it's difficult to point you to exactly the right page but start with Support & Drivers

Can the BIOS detect the hard drive?
If not then the hard drive maybe faulty and that is why the XP install cannot find the hard drive.
If this is the case then you need a new hard drive.

Sometimes when a driver is not listed on the web page where it's supposed to, you can chat with a live tech. I have done this on trying to get the driver for an internal tv tuner on my laptop but it was not listed. The chat tech was able to give me a direct download link to the files i needed and it fixed my problem. To install audio / modem drivers, first download and install Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio (sp32646):

Conexant CX20549-12 Audio Driver for Microsoft Windows XP (sp36090.exe) (UAA Driver needed)

This will create a swsetup folder in C drive ("C:\sp36090")

Installing this driver may result in an error. But continue with the following steps to get the audio driver installed correctly.

1. Click on Start and select Run. Now type devmgmt.msc and press enter.

2. Right click on "Audio device on High Definition Audio Bus" and click Update driver.

3. Select "Install from a list or specific location"

4. Click Next. Then select "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install"

5. Click Next and then select "Sound, video and game controller" from the list.

6. Click Next and then click Have Disk.

7. Click Browse C:\sp36090 folder and select the .inf file (CpV30D5a) and click open and Continue with the onscreen instructions.

Conexant CX20548 Modem Driver for Microsoft Windows XP (sp36089.exe) (UAA Driver needed)

Download and install Conexant modem driver (sp36089). This will give error message and also will create a folder C:\swsetup\sp36089 which contains extracted driver files.

The same method which is used for installing audio driver needs to be followed for modem.

PLEASE FOLLOW THE STEPS CAREFULLY

1. Step 1 If you have deleted something by accident, you can try to recover that file from the recycle bin in Windows.
   If you have emptied the recycle bin, you may be thinking it is lost forever, but you can try to do data recovery using software that is free. Data recovery is not always going to work, if the hard drive has written over that sector with data from another program, it might be unattainable using home based software.
   
2. Step 2 You can try however to do data recovery using this simple program "Undelete-All", I have posted it in resources.
   
3. Step 3 If your hard drive crashed and the sectors were corrupted, again a professional hard drive recovery place would be the best, but if you don't have thousands to spend, you can try a few things that are free.
   
4. Step 4 First you will want to restart and make sure the hard drive is being detected by BIOS, when it restarts press f2, or esc, or del to enter BIOS, every computer is different on how to get in, usually it will say at the bottom of the screen.
   
5. Step 5 Once in BIOS you will see a summary screen, if your hard drive is detected, great! Proceed on to the next steps, if, however, your hard is not showing, I am afraid to say but more then likely it has died, and it would definitely take a professional place to recover, what they do is take the hard drive platter out, and mount it onto a professional machine to recover the data, again this can costs thousands (I've checked into it before).
   There could though be other reasons a hard drive is not showing, such as, loose cables, BIOS not updated, etc. But if it was working, and nothing has changed, and you haven't rattled the computer around like laptop computers, this you would want to check for loose wires, otherwise it is probably dead.
   
6. Step 6 What you can do to try to get data recovery if it is still detected, and this works for desktop computers or laptop computers, would be to set up the old corrupted drive as a slave disk to the new disk.
   
7. Step 7 What you would need to do is buy a new disk, install the new OS, be it Windows Vista, XP, etc, and then attach the old drive to the 2nd cable in the computer.
   There will be jumpers if your drives are IDE, every drive is different, and you will have to look that up, it might be on the drive itself. You will want the new drive as master, the old drive as slave.
   If your drives are SATA, no matter, it will do this automatically.
   
8. Step 8 If you have a laptop computer, this will be a different procedure, you would need either an external enclosure for your old drive to attach it to your laptop via USB, or a desktop computer that you can hook it to.
   
9. Step 9 Since laptop computers can have either IDE or SATA, this might pose a difficulty if your desktop only takes SATA and your laptop is IDE, you would need an enclosure for this to hook it up via USB. If your laptop computer is SATA, you can hook this up to any desktop that has SATA, same with IDE.
   
10. Step 10 Once the drive is hooked up, and shows in Windows, you can begin the process of getting your files back. The main files on your desktop will be located in a USER file in Windows Vista c:\(user name)\desktop, in XP c:\documents and settings\(user)\desktop.
    
11. Step 11 I hope this article sheds some light on data recovery, hard drive recovery, and deleted files in laptop computers, and desktop computers.
