You need to download the drivers from the Compaq/HP WEB support/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the XP or Vista Windows version of the drivers you require and install them. Use this link to download the drivers :-

once you format, you loose the ability to recover from a previous installation unless you use a product like ghost. but here again, unfortunately if you do restore, you will restore corruption and all, and all of your efforts are worthless.

More than likely, it's just the fan making noise. They get noiser with age due to dirt and dust. Fans are cheap, you probably have one in the computer and one in the power supply. Bet bet is to pick one up at frys electronics or on ebay. They are just a couple of bucks and new ones are very quiet.

This problem occurs due to loosing in wiring of screen and CPU ...
You cant overcome from it yourself.
Go to the HP service center. they will replace your Screen.

if youre modem does not have a phone jack connection you need a unit w/ one call cable company for a replacement

To install audio / modem drivers, first download and install Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio (sp32646):

Conexant CX20549-12 Audio Driver for Microsoft Windows XP (sp36090.exe) (UAA Driver needed)

This will create a swsetup folder in C drive ("C:\sp36090")

Installing this driver may result in an error. But continue with the following steps to get the audio driver installed correctly.

1. Click on Start and select Run. Now type devmgmt.msc and press enter.

2. Right click on "Audio device on High Definition Audio Bus" and click Update driver.

3. Select "Install from a list or specific location"

4. Click Next. Then select "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install"

5. Click Next and then select "Sound, video and game controller" from the list.

6. Click Next and then click Have Disk.

7. Click Browse C:\sp36090 folder and select the .inf file (CpV30D5a) and click open and Continue with the onscreen instructions.

Conexant CX20548 Modem Driver for Microsoft Windows XP (sp36089.exe) (UAA Driver needed)

Download and install Conexant modem driver (sp36089). This will give error message and also will create a folder C:\swsetup\sp36089 which contains extracted driver files.

The same method which is used for installing audio driver needs to be followed for modem.

try to install the driver for touchpad, if the same check the hardware.. or try return to vista if working properly it means some problem for os xp.. because you downgrade the system...

hp company advice all user to do not downgrade but we can we use xp. the problem only not compatible some drivers

yes sometimes it does it to me but get a reparist man or go inside the moniter/computer to see.

Either bad connection/ribbon cable or screen has tanked. Could also be a display driver but very minimal chance.

Try to Press and hold the function (fn) key and the then press Brightness + key, if you have proper drivers installed.

The Fn key will be near the Space Bar, and the Brightness key will be symbolized by some Sun or something like that in the Top row of keys.

I guess you are running Windows XP on this laptop. Actually thisnotebook is not officially designed to work on Windows XP, howeverthere are some unofficial drivers available for windows XP, you may trydownloading the sound drivers from:

I'd recommend to install all the drivers from this page.
