I have a memorex mlt3221 and the screen just went balck

Look inside at the power supply board:This sounds like a very common issue. If set is hard to turn on (takes several tries)but will eventually turn on hereis what my guess would be.Every set has a standby power supplythat is running 7/24 if the set is plugged in and it supplies voltage to theremote circuit that turn on the main power supply for the tv and hence turn theset on.This is an area where companies cut corners by using lower rated voltage caps.By this I mean Standby usually provides under 10 volts to trigger the seton----what they do is use filter caps rated at say 10 volts max in a circuitwith 9 volts (example)=with the standby on all the time the filter caps(electrolytic caps) dry out and fail. The problem usually begins where you have to turn set on or or two times andgradually gets worse--takes longer and more tries to get it to come up.Once on it will stay on until turned off for a period of time. The caps will begin to work better (regain some of thecapacitance) as they get hot--hence one it is on it will seem ok.The beauty of this problem is most of themhappen when set is a year or two old (no warranty) and all you have to do islook at the top to locate bad ones. They are generally black or blue and round and vary in --they have twoconnections each--a + for positive and a - for negative--not unlike a batterywhich in a way they are. The + and - are marked on top and bottom of most boards. They are easy to replace and not expensive parts. The tops are silverand metal looking with creases on top and if bad they will be puffed up ontop---tops must be perfectly flat with no brown material leaking top or bottom. If this is your problem once you id them (make a drawing) you can begin. Here is the critical part---on each cap is also marked the value like 220uf 10vdc---220 micro farad at 10 volts maximum. If you find for example 6 puffed up and all are 10 vdc replace them with thesame value capacitance (like the 220 uf) but go up to at least in this case(from 10 volts) to a 16 or higher rated voltage cap.The only issue is when you go up in voltage rated value the cap is larger sosometimes there is an issue of physical space for the replacement on the boardto fit them in.The reason they cheapen these sets in this way is if 10 caps and you make25,000 sets there is a considerable savings in parts cost. They do not care as long as it lasts past the usual one year parts warranty.I have taken the time to be long winded because this really sounds like it maybe the problem you have.See attached photo of a typical cap and if you have questions or need advicelet me know.4_1_2012_6_27_24_pm.jpg

Tv turns off by itself

This may be a case of something overheating inside the set---check to make sure airflow is not restricted or blocked---set in enclosed area where it cannot cool.

Can a loss of audio through a HDTV HDMI connector be fixed?

The repair shop will have to replace the main board since not likely that they will spend a lot of time to troubleshoot down to component level and they must also have proper tools to work on the circuit board that uses surface mounted components.
If you can live without having HDMI 6, then you will be better off, you can expect $150 and up plus parts to repair your TV.

No Power on Memorex MLT3221

Hi,

I am sorry to hear regarding the trouble.

This is a common problem on all these sets after few years. We do see such problems on most of the days in our shop.If there is no power, it is highly suggestive of faulty power supply board and needs repair / replacement. If you have electronics repair experience, you could open the TV and pull out the board. You need to have a capacitor tester to check the continuity of these caps. Most of these caps are seen to be bulged / swelled or leaked and could be easily visible. You need to get the original caps from either radio shack or fry's . These caps could be available from any shop of repute.Do not buy it from ebay as most of the caps sold are not original and would cause the same problem even after few hours.Unless you need to replace the board.

You could get the board from :

http://www.shopjimmy.com/memorex-899-ab0-ipos150h-power-supply-unit.htm

If you are looking for a tech, the estimate would be around $150 - $175.

Any TV repair shop that has been in business for a few years would do.You can also give them the info (link) i gave you to show them you know the price of the part.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Have sound but no picture

This problem is commonly caused by the inverter to malfunction. The cold cathode fluorecent lamp is not giving light, try to use a flash light and point it to your lcd you should see some image.
common fault
1. surface mounted fuse is blown
2. shorted IC's,transformer or transistor cause the fuse to blown
3. bulging capacitor
Before checking this common fault be sure to unplug the unit because inverter board has a high voltage output. And you must have proper tools to check this fault. Or you can contact a technician to do it for you and save you from stress good day and best regards.

The picture goes blank after

Hello,

Problem is in either power supply or the Y-Sustain board.

The Y-Sustain is a relatively large board out of which go connections to the side of the display; it's therefore closer to either the left or the right side of the display, has at least one rather large heat sink on it and fat power cables connecting it to the main power supply.

Often there are fuses on that board - one or more. Check those.

if they are blown you can try to replace them, but expect them to blow again - usually the whole board needs to be replaced.

I hope this will hear to solve the problem....

I have a Memorex MLT3221

Hi,
This kind of symptoms indicated of fault either the bulb or the inverter board.
If the unit has a faulty bulb, dim picture will be the result and will detect by the feedback circuitry and will turn off the inverter board resulting to black picture. Busted bulb has a physical indication of fault like a blackened end and can easily identified.
Another caused of the symptoms is the faulty inverter board itself. If this is the case, troubleshooting is quite technical because you have to check the high voltage transformer, driver transistor, resistors, and capacitor. You may also replaced the entire board for your convenient, check the availability from your local Service Centers.

If you don't have necessary tools and test instrument and can't troubleshoot the unit yourself, I would advice you to look for a professional to isolate the problem.

Also, check if your unit is still under warranty/extended warranty period, avail it because the manufacturer will fix it for free. Opening the back cover will void the warranty.

Hope I helped you.

Have a nice day!

Thanks for using Fixya.

32 in, LCD will turn

0ne of 3 has failed:
(in order of probability):

1. Backlight inverter
2. Power Supply
3. Backlight

More specifically on #1 and #2 - capacitors either bulging, leaking, or exploded.

Please seek the expertise of an experienced TV repair technician - as they contain potentially lethal voltages that must be properly discharged before work can begin.

Thanks!^%$

Sound but no picture, can

The problem is likely with the screen itself. The power supply usually supplies both screen and speakers and has a light flashing on it indicating that it has power. Screens are often not worth replacing unless under warranty as they can sometimes cost as much as new TV to replace.

My screen goes directly to black when I turn on

I worked in electronic repair for 20 + years and recently have have this model in my shop...the problem turned out to be a ruptured electrolytic capacitor on the power supply board reference number EC17 in the backlight inverter supply....Changed this capacitor along with the capacitor next to it ref # EC18, and television worked fine...these capacitors are rated for high temp and high frequency...their value is 10uF/450Volt 105 degrees C...you can obtain them from NTE electronics at a cost of about 4-6 dollars each.
