Scanning doesn't require ink to execute the job. Try to rebrick your printer by pulling out the power supply (black box where the power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer) and put it back after 30 seconds.

Try to scan again.

A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer from your computer. Reboot your pc. Unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to your computer. Then try to print again once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection.
If that doesn't help, try the steps below:

1. Disconnect the printer from your computer.
2. On your computer, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes.
3. Delete the Lexmark print object.
4. Reboot your pc.
5. When your pc turns on, reconnect the printer.
6. Wait until your pc fully recognizes the USB connection. To check, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes. If you see a new Lexmark print object in the list again, then try to print again.

Error code 1ec/EC1 means incorrect print head which indicates that the cartridges need cleaning or they are not properly seated in the carrier. You can remove them and clean the cartridges with a moistened soft cloth. Also clean the print head, unplug the unit and take out the cartridges then clean the print head which is the area beneath the cartridges with a hot water towel, let it dry out for a while and see if it works again. If printing from your computer prints clear pages with no streaks, then the problem could be due to some dirt on the scanner bed. Grab a moistened soft cloth and gently wipe the scanner glass to clean it. Try to make a copy again.

Unplug the printer from the power source to turn it off. Open the printer cover to access the cartridge area. If you see the paper jam, slowly and carefully pull the paper out of the printer. Avoid tearing the paper or avoid leaving torn pieces in the printer. This will cause future paper jams in the printer.

When all is clear, re-plug the printer into the power source. Load some paper and try to print again.
Tips: Use only paper that is in good condition. Fan the paper before loading into the feeder to prevent sticking together. Use the specified media type and sizes for your model. Don't overload the feeder.

It could be that the Print Spooler service has stopped and won't let you print. Please follow the steps below to fix the problem:

1. Browse to Start -> Run... and type in "NET STOP SPOOLER" (this will stop the print spooler service)

What are the cartridge versions that you inserted into the printer? Compatible cartridges for the Lexmark X2600 printer are 14/14A and 15/15A. Make sure you are using genuine Lexmark cartridges.

The answer unfortunately is no and here is why, You will put Lexmark out of business, I don't mean that lightly.
People do not buy color printers to print black pages simply put they make money over your refills. Its unfortunate if there is no ink in the color you miss well forget it and purchase a new color ink or go with a Laser printer. To be honest a nice laser printer you can pick up for under $100 bucks and you can print all the black you want without being milked for a color ink.
Sorry if this was not the answer your looking for but this Lexmark mixes ink to save on the black and vice versa.

In most cases the printer driver software can have errors while being in use or is shut down. So to reset remove your printer from the PC and uninstall the printer software. Now reinstall the printer software and then connect the Printer to be detected as a new hardware as it will be installed. Now check the printer properties to see the ink levels.
Activate head cleaning before a test is taken . Sometimes it is possible that the head is not reacting to the need of the PC command or can be an issue with ink drying or poor ink cartridge contacts.

It is the chips on the inks that make it shore empty nothing you can do about it.

But I have found this bit of read up on the internet forum Gave it a go may work if it works come back let us know so I can pass it on to others Thanks.

1 Take a small pice of clear tape. Try covering one of the outside vertical row of contacts at thr front of the cartridge. Re-insert it and it shoudl "fool" the printer into thinking it is a new cartridge. It works for my Lexmark 2600 series all in one.



2 Use clear tape over left hand row of sensors on front of cartridge and re-insert. ink now shows with question mark but reads as full and prints fine.

3 I had fully covered the contacts because it was the full length of my Scotch tape. It did not work. I went back and re-read thread, wiped the contacts the computer was telling me, took off the strip and put on just a sliver covering the left vertical side of the contact only. It worked! Yippee! Thanks a million!
