If your engine speed has not been messed with, your voltage regulator is the problem. Contact Coleman for a local distributor for parts or repair.

What's the best choke setting for starting a cold

Full choke to start, open choke partially immediately the engine starts to where the motor runs smoothly, continue opening as soon as you can while keeping the engine running smoothly. Be sure to open fully before leaving the unit, running it with the choke partially on can cause a rich fuel condition which tends to wash the oil off the cylinder walls and it also dilutes the oil with gasoline.

In general take your mulitmeter set it ot OMHS high scale measure resistance between tech - lead on coil to the output socket reading should be 7.5 to 10.5 k omhs then go from the + side terminal to the tach - side go to a lower scale you should read between .7 to 1.7 omhs like i said this is a gerenal reading your may vary but if you read close the coil is likely fine if your way off or you don,t get any reading then its NG

To much noise

They do have a lot of vibration. Check all bolts to be sure they are tight. Set it on something that will help quiet the vibration (rubber mat or the like). If it is exaust noise, how old is the unit and could it need a new muffler? I piped the exaust on mine into a larger muffler mounted on the frame with rubber grommets.

I am trying to split the gear case on the gen to

Mike, You must have a puller to get the stator out without damaging by other methods. If is important that proper tools are in place before we attempt as we might end up with a irrepairable damage with use of wrong tools and methods.
So do not forcea ny part out but consult and get help from a nearby tool shop for the tool to pull the stator , also you must make sure the pares required before the machine is pulled apart.

Generator does not output any power. Engine runs

I have the same problem and here is my troubleshooting steps I took.

1) Verified that the unit had no output with induction meter on cables coming out of top of generator head (three black and three white). You can use a volt meter too.
2) Checked that brushes were free and long enough.
3) Checked capacitor (condenser) was 130uF
4) Checked diodes

My engine goes to full throttle when started under

if you have the type of engine where the carb is attached to the gas tank then you need to replace the gasket diaphragm between the garb and the tank theirs springs their so be careful you don't lose them and this should solve this issue this fix repaires the choke that will start to close after start up and cause the engine to race and not stall.
if the carb is not attached to the tank you may have a broken guvnor spring or a broken guvnor fingers that's internal the engine will need to be tore down and the issue parts replaces i suggest you get a small engine repair manual you can get them from the library as well if you don't want to buy and tackle this your self other wise take to a service place for repair hope this helps

WAnt start

first make sure good gas in in the unit as well the fuel is flowing to the carb if this is ok pull the spark plug and ground the side to the block make sure you don't have any gas spilled.
turn the run switch on if it has one and crank the engine you should see a spark if you do then back to the carb you may need to disassemble it and rebuild kit the carb and check if the float is not stuck this is common if the unit sits a wile with gas in them the best was to prevent this from happening gain is to run the unit with the gas off till it stalls and no gas is still in the carb.
if you don't have a spark then you will need to check the kill wire and the low oil switch wires to make sure they did not rub and ground out when thease wires ground it will prevent the engine from running.
if they look ok remove the pull starter cover you will see a flywheel and on the top their will be a coil that the spark plug wire leads it will be black their will be another small wire as well ether orange , red, or black some will have a small tab for a plug check the wires from that point depending on the age their some models that use a solid state module and the small wire will be a kill so ther cant be grounded is it is repair and rotate the flywheel with spark plug removed and grounded look for a spark if so this issue will be fixed and reassemble unit and test run in it is older and has a point system you will need to remove the flywheel and replace the points or repair electrics under the fly wheel check the fly wheel key-way as well if damaged replace.
when done test for spark again if fixed reassemble test run if still no spark check the low oil sensor a one wire then just clip the wire and test spark if spark their then replace the low oil sensor or leave undone check oil regular. reassemble run if still no spark then you have a bad coil module and it will need replacing but this is rare hope this helps

Won't start. No spark plenty of gas. Was running

This is going to sound way to over simplified but here goes. They have a low oil level sensor and when the oil gets low OR the sensor fails it kills the ignition. If the engine oil level is fine and you still have no spark.. disconnect ONE lead of the sensor and check spark again. If you have spark the Oil level Sensor is either very dirty or has failed.

overload function. same as a trip fuse. Possible fault in A/C or you are trying to exceed the generators capacity. A./C;s draw a lot of amps and can often cause lots of drag on a generator when other items are on too even just lit up in standby mode ( m.waves.. Tv Electric stove etc)
