Coleman Powermate Subaru 5000W Portable Generator - Page 3 Questions & Answers
I have a Coleman generator with a Subaru engine
Carry the old spring to a lawnmower repair shop and see if they can match you up with a spring. They may ask you for the make and model of the generator and/or the Subaru engine, so have that info with you . This info should be in the owners manuals.

Intake valve rocker arm broken,
If you only have that short of run time on and there is not a issue with lubrication, I would go to coleman,com to find location of nearest service center and try to get this taken care of under warranty. You should not have to cover that expence and my main concern is that this was defective from the factory and I would want the whole unit checked out. Thank you and good luck.

I have a 10-2 ground
You really need to use a 4 wire, one with red, black, white, and a ground. 10-2 will not work properly.

In any power generator installation it is always advisable to have a ground/earth rod (minimum 3 ft/1 metre long) attached to the frame of the generator, especially when connecting ancilliaries such as yuor transfer switch. The Earth and Neutral pins of the output sockets on the generator should also be interconnected. They are usually linked at the factory on assembly.

If this unit was tipped over and you found oil in the air filter, there is a chance the oil entered the top of the piston as well. Never lean a engine over. If you have to make sure the spark plug is facing up, that way the oil stays in the cranckcase. If the plug has oil on it then the oil has entered in. Do not use ether. This will do nothing but damage your piston and rings. If you do not have any oil on the plug, are you getting any fuel on the plug? If it is dry it sounds like you have a jet stopped up in the carburator which is not letting fuel to go through. Or it could be the needle on the float is stuck. If so, turn the fuel off, drop the bowl and inspect for these problems. This is a common problem with small engines that are not used very much. They sit up and the old fuel causes the problems. If it is old fuel, drain it out and add fresh fuel before trying to restart. But get that carburator checked and it may need a good cleaning. Good luck.

You are correct about your assumption of oil sending unit, however, I would still disconnect the wire from sensor for now. I assume that you drained all the old fuel from the tank and bowl. Add one gallon of premium grade fuel into tank. Remove spark plug and spray carb cleaner into cylinder or remove air filter and spray carb cleaner directly into carb while cranking. Don't over spray, just enough to get things going. I suspect that the valves are not seating. This may improve after it cranks up. Use some upper engine lube in fuel after it runs. If it does not crank please check compression and email the results. Good luck and thanks,

To be sure that the oil level switch is good or not, try the following:
- Find the switch terminals;
- First disconnect one wire (if more than one) and try to crank the motor;
- If the previous attempt was not successful, connect the wires together (if two wires) or the wire to ground (if one wire). Try cranking again.
If one attempt was successful, then the sensor is bad or wrong connected.
If no attempt was successful, then the sensor may be good. Than check the fuel supply system.

These gaskets do leak in time or if ever removed for they will expand in size once off. Most auto parts stores will sell gasket paper. You can very well make a new gasket for this. The drain for some models are there for adjustments can be made through that opening as well. Yours does not have that option for adjustments can not be done through that area

No one makes the part as wanted by you so I would just get a reseal kit for the float bowl. Most carbs that do have this option are American made engines. Go to a business that sells Coleman products and they can order the part as needed. Most larger lawn & garden power shops may have this in stock

The gasoline will eat right through any sealant you try to use.
Check with any small engine repair shop in your area, there arent too many different sizes.
Thanks!

The drain screw has a gasket also. It sounds like you have a Tecumseh engine. If not a Briggs & Straton for they have drain screws and both have gaskets as well. You did not state the manufactures name on the engine so you will need that and the model number which is stamped or un a label on the top of the engines flywheel shroud (cover)
Look under garden equipment in the yellow pages for most of these establisments can help you
