The switch is the on/off anti reverse switch. It is the switch (probably the only one) on the reel at the base. When the reel is in the upright position, look at the bottom/rear area. That little level controls the reverse. Good fishing...

The line needs to installed on the reel as it is on the new spool when purchased. Also check spool drag. If it is a spinning reel it is important to install the string correctly and use a quality brand of string.

alright man......i had the same problem. it just takes a little bit of elbow grease, bot it does twist open, it's just harder than hell to get it to twist off. I took a towel and laid it over the reel, and lightly tapped on it with a hammer to loosen it up a bit.

Hold the bell or (metal thing on the top) so that it doesn't turn and reel in. It should start unscrewing. Theres a cap on the other side, unscrew it and put it on the left hand side. Then screw the handle in on the right side by just reeling in until the bell starts spinning.

At least 4 ft. or a little bit taller than the weeds and seaweed are, That way the hook doesn't get snagged while you real in and the fish can see it.

try switching sides of the handle by holding the bell and reeling then screw it in on the other side of the real by just reeling in. If that doesn't work then take all the line out and reel in some new line the opposite way.

The long spring (only one in the reel) goes under the bail arm plate. To get it back in, remove the plastic cover plate on the side that pickes up the line (has a line roller on that side). The spring will fit over a small metal or plastic post and rest in a cavity at the bottom.
Screw the cover back on and you're good to go!

Check your drag should be on the front of the reel.They should be dry,no oil or grease on them.

Take the line off the spool in such a way that the line will be caught by the bail after you cast the line. The easiest way to get it right is to raise the bail like you are going to cast the line, thread the eyes, then trip the bail with the handle, as though you were reeling 'em in.

put spool of string on a pencil and have someone hold it, now snake the string through the eyes of the pole and attach it to the reel, on the small shaft in the middle, then just reel your pole in untill you reach YOUR limit of string..

Here are the steps to properly install the spring in a Shakespeare Synergy 2001S reel:

1. Remove the spool from the reel.
2. Locate the bail wire assembly on the side of the reel.
3. Take the spring and slide it onto the bail wire assembly. The smaller end of the spring should be facing towards the reel.
4. Hold the spring in place and reattach the spool to the reel.
5. Test the reel by pulling the line out and then closing the bail. The spring should be under tension and hold the bail in place.

If the spring is not holding the bail in place or is not properly installed, the reel may not function correctly. If you are having difficulty installing the spring, it may be helpful to consult the owner's manual or a professional for assistance.

you mean a spincast reel... NO more than 10lb... the line gets too big to work smoothly..and it fills the reel too quick!!
