Weiser Lock Powerbolt 1000 Lock - Page 6 Questions & Answers
Will not lock from outside
You did not say whether this is a new installation or a problem which has developed over time.Assuming a new installation, you probably haven't set the internal direction jumper for your lock correctly. Here is a link to the complete installation instruction; you will see what I'm referring to on page 6:http://www.weiserlock.com/PDFs/instructions/Electronics/Powerbolt.pdfA note about the PDF files: If you cannot view a given file, you need to first install Adobe reader. You can get the free download from here:http://get.adobe.com/reader/Good luck--and please provide feedback if this helps!
I'm changing the batteries in
You may have developed a mechanical bind due to the door sagging between the lock and the strike plate. If there is a noticeable difference between how the lock functions with the door open and closed, this is probably the case--and that will take your batteries down. Or you may have developed a mechanical bind within the lock mechanism itself-which is covered under warranty. For warranty service contact from this link:http://www.weiserlock.com/CustomerService/WarrantyInfo/Powerbolt.aspxGood luck-and please give feedback if this helps!
My unit is not lit up. Impossible at night to see
To make the keys light up when you want to enter your code, you have to push the lock button on the keypad first. If the keypad light never comes on, open the door and manually lock the interior lock, then press the keypad lock button. The above instructions should then work.
How do i know when to replace batteries ?
There's no sure way to know when to change the batteries. I'd suggest you change them at least once a year. Plan on it when you do your smoke alarm battery change, which should be done at least annually.
Began to beep in intervals.
Why is my Powerbolt 1000 unit beeping?
This is the relevant excerpt from the Powerbolt programming and troubleshooting instructions:
"To determine why your lock is beeping abnormally, please follow these steps:
Take out batteries and unplug powerstrip.
Let it sit for 1 minute, then put the batteries back in and wait another minute.
If it does not beep, the keypad needs to be replaced (17733-1).
If the unit continues to beep, the powerboard needs to be replaced (A17734-3,3 Powerboard 1470 brass finish; A17734-3,26D Powerboard 1470 satin chrome finish; A17734-3,5 Powerboard 1470 antique brass finish)."
Since you've already gone through the battery change, try the battery remove-reinstall recommended above. If that doesn't work for you it suggests that you need to replace the appropriate Powerboard for your lock.

I suggest calling the appropriate toll-free number and having a conversation with a representative about this problem. You will want confirm that you need the part before you go through the expense, and that it's worth it. You will need to know the "finish" of your lock. Try to talk them into warrantying the part, in spite of the age (one year warranty on electronics), as a matter of good customer relations. They will help you get the correct part on order.

I have a weiser lock.
If your lock has previously been working, then developed this problem, you likely have developed a mechanical problem within the lock.I
recently helped someone else with a Powerbolt that would not fully
extend and retract--he thought it was an electronic problem at first.
Then he removed the deadbolt assembly and found, in his words, "the
deadbolt is ensconced with a plastic sleeve when it retracts into the
latch housing. The sleeve is shattered and most likely to be the cause
of its malfunction." Something to look at!
Weiser claims to have a full lifetime warranty on mechanical parts. Contact information:

The Weiser brand and Kwikset brand Powerbolt are identical, so these instructions will work just fine for you:

It seems that possibly the contacts or connection between the batteries and the lock may have slight corrosion. Clean the ends of the batteries, the contacts that touch the battery ends and any other connection with either a pencil eraser or some alcohol on a Q-tip.

I lost my instructions over
I understand that you have already downloaded the installation instructions but do not have the template. Just in case, this is the link to the instructions:

This is a pdf file, which requires that you have Adobe Reader installed on your computer to open it. If you cannot, get and install Adobe Reader from here:

Now, the template. Unfortunately, there is no download available for the installation template. I believe the reason is that a printer cannot print to exact scale, so the dimensions of your template printout would not be accurate and your holes would be slightly off. This is a feature that is purposely designed into all printers, mostly to confound would-be amateur counterfeiters.
So I have a couple of suggestions for you. You can contact Weiser directly and ask them if they can send you a template.

You may try finding a store that sells the Powerbolt and get the assistance of a helpful clerk who could photocopy the template, but be sure to measure your copy against the original and adjust the dimensions on the copy accordingly.

My key pad does not
There is only a one year warranty on the electronics and the maker (Stanley-Black and Decker) will not sell the electronic parts separately. Check the installation manual for a reset procedure - basically the lock might be "forgetting" it's programming. Another possibility is that it's trying to move the bolt and can't. Be sure the bolt moves freely.
If the electronics have failed and it's out of warranty, there are other brands that are key-compatible with Kwikset. Weiser locks can also be keyed to be compatible with Kwikset. You'll still have the same problem if the electronics breaks though. The main difference is that other brands don't move the bolt with battery power, they just enable it to be moved by hand.

We have recently installed this
As long as you can hear it trying to engage the lock I would say that you need to adjust the strike plate in the door frame for a more precise fit' You can use your key to lock the door and see if you feel any rough spots when it is engaging the strike plate. One easy way to tell where it is hitting if you can't see it is to use a magic marker and mark the strike plate. Try to close the lock with the keypad after the ink has dried. If it is hitting the strike plate it should leave a mark in the ink so you know which way you need to adjust the plate.. You can either move the entire strike plate or you can use a rat tail or round file to make it fit. If you have a dremel tool they work well with a metal circular file bit.Hope this helps you. Thanks.

Short answer: You can't do anything with the lock from the side that you're on- the outside- without the key.
Once you figure out another way to get on the other side of the lock, this is the relevant excerpt from the Powerbolt programming and troubleshooting instructions:

Take out batteries and unplug powerstrip.
Let it sit for 1 minute, then put the batteries back in and wait another minute.

- Take out batteries and unplug powerstrip.
- Let it sit for 1 minute, then put the batteries back in and wait another minute.
I contacted customer support... they tell me the FAQ information on
their own website is incorrect. The opposite is true, therefore the
following is correct:
- If it does not beep, the powerboard needs to be replaced
