I don't know that machine but generically, the description suggests a faulty drum or fuser unit... How many prints or copies since either or both were changed, please?

check to see if all the lights are turning on as it tries to scan (do a scan with the lid up and nothing on the glass. Possiby need to rplace the drum in the printer.

no it can't however it should have a 10/100Base-TX ethernet port. You should be able to plug it into a Wireless Router and be able to access it via an ethernet ip network. However you would have to set the laser fs-1118mfp printer to an appropiate IP address and subnet mask and set the router to issue DCHP to Ip addresses outside the printer range of IP addresses. So for example 192.168.0.1 router 192.168.0.2 could be assigned to printer and DHCP leases assigned to 192.168.0.10 - 192.168.0.254 using a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 for all the ip addresses. The router could communicate with laptops via wireless but each laptop would need the laptop operating system driver for the printer added and the ip address would be 192.168.0.2 for the printer. it could also be done on 10.0.0.whatever 10.0.0.1 router 10.0.0.2 printer 10.0.0.10 -10.0.0.254 DHCP server leases. If you have a ethernet network already you could just add a wireless access point to the network .

You can vacuum out the waste toner by removing the panel on the left or right side of the drum unit (can't remember). there is no plug. messy but it works

from experience when ever I get a problem like this I generally delete the relevant driver and then reinstall it. check that the driver is compatible with your operating system. This is all I can suggest as it takes very little to corrupt a driver.

An 1118 process unit has a 100k life @5% average coverage in my experience the usually last about 85k when the waste toner is full it's generally near the end of life of the unit the fact that you're getting black marks in the pages says to me that there is drum decay which is also a signs of the process unit life nearing its end

That model should come with standard network connectivity. If, in fact, the usb port is out then you can connect the unit via ethernet on your LAN and regain your print and scan functions. Keep in mind that network scanning protocols (SMB, FTP, SMTP) require some IT knowledge to set up.
