I have a gen. 2 Kindle Paperwhite that is locked in sleep mode. Is there a way to unlock this without losing all the data?

The paperwhite is only for reading books. As to the books you never lose them unless you go to your online kindle account and delete them from there. All info on your reader is also stored in the cloud. To do the reset press and hold the start button for 20-30 seconds. Release, you will see some flashing which is normal. Then you will see the load bar. Just leave it until it settles down. You should be able to access you books after that.

My kindle paperwhite does not appear to be charging, do I need to replace the battery

I don't think the paperwhite has a user replaceable battery. I would try a different charger first.

My screen went from black type face to light gray while reading a book.

I have a paperwhite and never seen it do that. I have seen it do some other odd stuff with a book though. Have you checked other books to see if they are ok? There may be a program error for that book. Back up to first page of a chapter to make it easier to find your place again. Delete the book from your kindle. Then look the book up on Cloud listing and try downloading again. You may have to go back to you account at Amazon and download from there. If it still does it's change thing contact support to see what they say about it.

Today, I tried to use my fully charged Kindle and the green light came on (as always), but then it just turned off. How do I get it to work again?

Hi, I would recommend taking it to a technician. Self repair is not recommended as you can make the problem even worse. This may not be the best answer, but I hope it helps.

Some kindles are not shipped to Melbourne australia. If I buy a new kindle in an australian shop how can i have my contents transferred from my old kindle to a new one?

I recommend asking AMAZON directly, via their website, perhaps. My understanding is that they are the makers of Kindles and could likely, correctly provide the answer you seek. Happy Kindle-ing!

Try this suggestion rom Amazon: Restart your Kindle Paperwhite Many issues with your Kindle, such as a frozen screen or issues with downloading content, can be solved by restarting your device. Help for Kindle Paperwhite (5th Generation). Press and hold the Power button for seven seconds until the Power dialog box appears, and then tap Restart. Note: If the Power dialog box doesn't appear, press and hold the Power button for a full 40 seconds until your device restarts.

My paperwhite won't turn on even after a charge

You may have a bad cord or need a new battery. when you charge does the light come on? If not you have a bad charge cord. Any similar USB cable will work. Try charging again. Does the light change from yellow to green; which indicates a full charge but still won't work? I'd suspect a bad battery. You can order one from Amazon or may find one at a battery store or Best Buy. Take the kindle along with you to make sure you get the right one. I've had my paperwhite about 5 years, charge at least once a month and have had no problems.
