Hi Kathy, Google Chrome will absolutely definitely not itself put unwanted programs and malware on your PC. Chrome is one of the top 3 internet browsers used in the world and will never ever behave like this.
However, malicious websites you have visited, USING Chrome to browse to them, WILL do that, most especially if your PC has no anti-malware program installed and running. This is what I feel has happened to you. A great deal of freeware programs people download nowadays come with such unwanted 'payloads'.
What I advise is this (I have absolutely no connection with these people and no reward except beneficial experiences) is to visit

Hitman is a sweeper/cleaner based in the Cloud. It will descend, find all your nasties in the PC, and list them for deletion. It then departs, leaving no installation.
Then install a good anti-virus program like Malwarebytes, Kaspersky or AVG. Once installed have it do another sweep and clean.
The 2 main commercial antivirus market leaders, N****n and M****e, are large and powerful, but very dominating, but go that way if you wish, I would not.
Then make sure you have a good firewall running. Windows' own internal firewall is good enough. If unsure, post again saying what version of Windows you have (sorry, I don't know Apple OS).
If all that is overwhelming, your local computer shop will do the whole thing for you, but you do not have to buy any expensive software at all.
