How do I defragment an iPod

Unlike some personal music players, the iPod stores your music on a hard drive, as well as your computer. This allows the iPod to store lots of music, but also means it is vulnerable to many of the same problems as other drives, including jumping and data fragmentation. Skipping is difficult to avoid, but you can fight against the fragmentation of data with the Windows Disk Defragmenter, the same tool you use your hard drive clean.

1. Connect your iPod to your PC using the USB or Firewire, or placing it in its docking station.

2. Expect that Windows recognizes the iPod. It only takes a few seconds, but you must wait until the possibility of the iPod disk utilities menu.

3. Open "My Computer", clicking the shortcut on the Start menu or desktop.

4. Locate the iPod in the list of active drives in My Computer. Once you've found, right-click the icon and choose "Properties" menu of options.

5. Changing from the "General" tab to the "Tools" menu in the Properties panel.

6. Click the "Defragment Now" and follow the instructions to connect your iPod to your hard disk to defragment.
