Tip & How-To about Samsung DLP HL-P4663W 46" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television
All, One question or comment that I have never seen on the threads dealing with multiple failures of the DLP Lamp and ballast systems is what is the unit installed in? How far is the cabinet from the wall? The units I have looked at haved forced fan cooling to beep the lamp from self destructing. On the HLP4663W if the unit is placed against a wall the exhaust (heated) air port is blocked. Too close to the wall and the heated air is recirculated back into the cabinet directly over the ballast module. It is possible that the lamp/ballast assembly is running too hot. Not hot enough to trip the safety circuits but hot enough to degrade the life expectancy of the unit and drastically shorten the life of the lamp and/or ballast. IMHO if the cabinet is close to a radiator or within 6" of a wall thermal problems will result. Just my 2cents. Zenith451
