Tip & How-To about Dryers

Dryer Needs Cleaning

Dryers need to be cleaned out about 2 - 3 times a year or more often if needed. If it is taking longer for your clothes to dry it is most likely because your dryer is not venting properly. So, check behind your dryer and see if the vent hose is kinked,if it is then you will need to correct this problem as it will cause the long drying time. Another thing you need to clean out is the dryer vent hose as well as the dryer vent that comes out of your home, sometimes critters will build a nest in there because it is warm in the winter. If you are handy it would be a good thing to open up the dryer and clean inside as well. Too much lint inside the unit is a fire hazard. UNPLUG dryer before taking it apart!!!

My dryer take longer and longer to dry clothes. I

check to make sure lint trap is clean also make sure exhaust is not clogged. if both are clear than you probably need to replace your heating elements. if this the case than you need to call an appliance repair tech. trying to do it yourself could result in electricution. also make sure your drum is turning.

dryer wont dry

LONG dry time is an indication of a clogged or restricted exhaust. Clogged or restricted exhaust is the primary cause of failure in all residential dryers. Blowing the the system with a shop vac is only a temporary solution. The system needs to be cleaned (2 to 3 times per year) with a rotary brush to scrape lint collecting from the sides of the pipe. Suggest going to Lowes and purchasing vent cleaning kit. Read instructions CAREFULLY. Also consider replacing flexible plastic or foil pipe with rigid metal type. Dryer will vent 30% to 40% better. If condition persists for too long, a high limit fuse mounted on the heater will open causing the heater to no longer operate.
