Tip & How-To about Pool & Spa

Small tips big diff.. cleaner water, absorb tanning oils, less chlorine, & kills water bugs!!

So years ago I owned a small pool repair business and I would send out occasional tips with my newsletters.
1> Throw some tennis balls in the pool. The balls will float and end up in the skimmer. The balls will absorb the Tanning Oil floating on your pool(faster then you would think). As needed maybe once a month/week during season put in dishwasher for a cycle then back in the pool.
2> Once a week during season then once a month off season, put a squirt of some quality Dawn dish soap in the water. Just a squirt nothing crazy. It will actually soften the water and bind the clumps while binding the oils for easy filtering. The water bugs you used to get will all disappear, they wont be able to breathe anymore. They actually drown because they can't pull little air bubbles down into the water anymore.
No need for expensive Clarifiers...
3> Sand filter getting little old, not filtering so good, using more chlorine. Ask around the water cooler at work, for who has a Pool DE filter. Then ask them for a small like 1lb coffee can of DE they wont mind its cheap and its hard to buy a small quantity. Add the can of DE into your skimmer while running the circulation system. You just put your sand filter on steroids and bought yourself another couple years.
4>OK last one and I have no explanation for this one. Put a couple (2/3) golf balls in pool. I can't explain it but I am telling you it works. The pool chemistry becomes more stable and will burn lest Chlorine. For in-floor cleaning system just leave in bottom of pool. If you have a suction cleaner (Kreepy, Barracuda, Polaris..) put the Golf balls in the skimmer basket.
Swim well Friends!!
