Tip & How-To about Washing Machines
If your cloths dryer seems to be not working like it did when it was new you may want to check out why. A couple hours of your time may pay huge rewards in drying time and efficiency. This tip will pertain to both gas and electric dryers.
One of the first things that you want to check is to see if the dryer is blowing air out of the vent. If the air coming out does not seem to be any or enough you have a bad blower fan assembly or have a clog somewhere that is restricting the flow of the air. This restriction could be either in the dryer or in the vent piping going to the outside.
Remove the hose from the back of your dryer and inspect the hose or vent pipe to the outside. Clean out all debris that has collect inside the piping. If the pipe has any sags they can collect lint in them. Keep the line to the outside as straight and short as possible. The more air that can flow through the better and more efficient the dryer will be.
Pull apart everything that you can on the inside of the dryer. To get to the parts your will need to pull off the back cover if your dryer has a top lint screen or the bottom front panel if your dryer has the lint screen in the door. Make sure that you unplug the dryer before opening the panels.
Cleaning out the dryer venting will give the heating components of your dryer a chance at a longer life. Excess heat is what will burn out the thermal cut-out fuse and also will cause the high-limit switch to activate much more often then it would need to otherwise. The heating element will also be running at a higher temperature which could cause a premature failure there also.
It is a good idea to learn to do these things on a regular basis to prevent part failures and also the possibility of a house fire. The build up of lint in your dryer can cause a fire. The more often you clean the unit the better protected you are. Cleaning four times a year is a good practice. This will give your equipment longer life and help to protect your property.
Keeping your dryer clean and the vent piping clean will help to ensure that your dryer is working at it’s best at all times. You also will feel safer knowing that you are doing what you can to keep you and your family safe.
