If your dryer is not drying like it once did or if you just have not taken the time to give yourself a clean dryer in a long time then you need to do that. At least once a year the dryer cleaning should take place. Lint build up in the dryer duct is one of the main causes for your dryer to fail.

Lint build up in the dryer and the dryer duct will cause increased drying times. This causes your dryer to run longer, increasing the wear on the dryer. Many house fires are also caused by the build up of lint in the dryer and related ductwork.

Cleaning the duct is easy with a dryer vent brush. They come in sizes up to 20 feet in length. The job may be messy but it will be worth it in the long run.

If you are comfortable with tearing down the dryer on the inside, you should take apart and vacuum out as much as you are comfortable with. By taking out the lint screen and sticking Shop Vac crevice tool down into the opening, a lot of the lint that gets by the screen can be vacuumed out, also.

Another thing to check is the material that is being used to vent your dryer. The older white vinyl duct is no longer approved by any building code for any dryer. If you have the vinyl duct replace it with rigid or semi-rigid aluminum duct. This will make your home much safer.

By giving your dryer a once a year cleaning you will help to save yourself energy and also help to prevent the possibility of trouble in the future.
