Thank you for using FixYa. To change the chuck on your cordless drill, open the old chuck jaws to the maximum. Inside the chuck where it attatches to the drill body, there is a Philips headed bolt. Unscrew the bolt in a CLOCKWISE direction. Reverse this procedure to fit the new chuck.
Put the biggest hex key you have in the chuck and tighten it then hit it clockwise with the spindle lock engaged a couple of times. The screw in the chuck will then undo clockwise and the chuck can be undone after by putting the allen key back in and unscrewing it anti-clockwise maybe with a light tap from a mallet.
Hope this helps
Jon
The dc925 and the current model dcd950 along with several other models of Dewalt 's line of cordless hammer drills DO NOT have a screw inside removal requires a CHUCK REMOVAL FIXTURE part # 233804-40 also you can't use a generic replacement chuck. As of 2/2/2010 the prices on the Dewaltservicenet web site are $72.74 for the tool and $69.70 for the chuck, part # 330075-90.
if chuck is wide open ,look down inside there should be an allen screw or bolt at the bottom of the chuck it should undo anti clocwise and the chuck comes off
Put the screw back in the chuck, tighten it up then back it out 1 turn. Take a punch, put it in the chuck and give it a quick hit with a hammer. That should do the trick.
I just changed the chuck on my 18 volt xrp half inch hammer drill, yes first you must remove the torx screw with #15 torx bit, note this is a left handed thread screw, knowing the bad chuck was bad I added some heat from a propane torch to the chuck then making sure it was in 1st gear i took some vise grips and the chuck is screwed on with normal right handed threads,it broke loose (was stubborn but needs a lot of torque )ahhhhhh wat a pain.
Most chucks have a tolerance the cordless drills where designed for drill bits 1/8 and larger the 3/8 chucks are a little better with the smaller bits .Check your owners manual and see if they have a min requirement listed for the bit size
this 2 chuck are 3/8 jaw opening, double sleeve u can hold the chuck will opening it at the sametime.the sinlge sleeve u have to runs the drill while running slow rev/for to remove the bit etc.
i prefer metal sleeve.
yeah you have a bad chuck. there is a screw inside the receiver of the chuck if you remove this screw the chuck will come off. Reverse this procedure to re install the new chuck.
How to remove the chuck
