Hello,

IF YOU HAVE A SOLID BLACK LINE RUNNING VERTICALLY THEN YOU HAVE A FAULTY MATRIX INVERTER. IF CENTRAL THE MAIN VERTICAL INVERTER NEEDS CHANGED. LEFT = LEFT VERTICAL INVERTER RIGHT=RIGHT.........

ANOTHER WAY TO GET THIS FAULT IS WORN OR DAMAGED RIBBON/PLASTIC GOING FROM THE SCREEN MATRIX TO THE INVERTER

HOPING THIS WILL HELP TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM....

SOURCE: 42 inch samsung plasma tv black vertical lines

Hi, Depeending on the thickness of the lines matters. If the lines are Black and about 1-2 inches thick it may be a bad bottom buffer board or a bad panel (screen).
If the lines are thin 1/16 to 1/8 inch it is most likely a bad panel.
You can open up the set and depending on the model, see the thin board/boards running across the bottom with ribbon cables going to the panel. You may be able to attempt reseating the ribbon cables, but be careful as some retainer plugs break very easy.
If the lines are thick black and the reseating doesn't correct it you may be able to buy the coresponding buffer. Unfortunately some bottom buffers are actually part of the panel. If you are not comfortable taking it apart then call a professional but be aware labor charges start around $200 not counting parts, panels start at $600 up to over $1000
hope this helps
Thanks
Eric

SOURCE: Vertical black line on the screen of my 42" Magnavox flat panel lcd tv

I wish I could post a solution, but I don't have one. I too have a Magnavox. About 6 months ago, once every 2 weeks or so, the screen would just go black- all but an inch or two on either side. Now, it seems like it's a weekly thing, sometimes every hour or two. As of tonight, it has happened twice in a matter of thirty minutes. It usually repairs itself if I turn it on and then off again but that's just not working anymore. If anyone has a solution, let me know.

SOURCE: thin vertical red line

This maybe the symptom of a bad Panel. One Vertically This line is 99% bad panel. Call your warranty provider or SONY tech support if purchased under 2 years.

SOURCE: tv is about 4 years old. Suddenly developed two

Your plasma screen is made up of 1080 verticle lines and now a few of these lines are not working. This is the screen itself and needs replacing.

SOURCE: i have an lg 42inch plasma and now a vertical blac...

I had the same problem with a five year old 50" LG Plasma. I fixed the problem with a 11 dollar soldering iron from Radio Shack and about 2 hours of my night. You have to open the back of the tv and locate where the ribbon strips are attached to the screen. I beleive that on your 42" they will be on the bottom of the tv. Mine had 11 on top and 11 on bottom. Yours will probably have around 7 or 8 along the bottom. Mine was a little easier since I did not have to remove the control board. You unfortunately probably will have to remove it. It is not hard at all, just takes more time. Make sure to keep your screws seperated and remember where everything goes. On bigger jobs some tape and a marker are very useful. Put tape on the board and around the wires removed and leave a tail. This way tou will remember to hook them all back up. Once you find the ribbon strips you have to remove them one by one and look at what is behind the metal place. There will be 4 capacitors and 4 resistors. The tv manufacturers want you to buy new tv's every 5 to 10 years so they use a very cheap solder on their contacts. Use you soldering iron and re-heat the solder to liquify it again and thats it. Allow time to cool on each of the caps and resistors. It took me about 1 to 2 seconds on each side of these parts. I did use a dual wattage soldering iron from radio shack. Its is a 25 and 35 watt iron. I used the higher setting. I have pictures if you would like me to email them to you and show you what I did. Be careful removing the ribbon strips, I broke one of the clips that hold in the ribbon strip. That is costing me an extra 25 dollars off ebay but still for a free tv, its not bad.

Vertical Black line 3 inch width on Plasma Samsung 42C96HD after 2 months of use

On al the plasma tvs there are control boards on the lower part of the screen that control the vertical images. If one of the chips on one of the boards fail, have a bad connection, or no ground it will result in a thick black lne down the screen. Seeing as the tv is new I would get the warrantee repair on it. There is a possibility that there is a problem with the screen itself but more than likely its the boards.

Parallel vertical lines through left side of Panasonic Plasma tv

This sounds like one of the driver boards at the bottom or top of the screen has an intermittent fault. The set will have to be taken in to a service centre.
