Recently got siemens gigaset SE587 router from Tiscali but it will not get a stable ADSL light unless I connect my old Modem into another phone socket in the house. And yes, all the old modem needs is to be connected with the ADSL wire ONLY into another filter in another socket and bingo the router works! Unplug the old modem and the router drops the connection giving a flashing ADSL light?
What is used this router it is a adsl router or only router if this is only router then you have to connect your adsl modem then only its work properly .

If this is router is gifted to you by a friend of yours who is from UK, Please check if this is locked. Most of the times these would be locked by the ISP. This is a router provide by tiscali UK. Please select the dialing number to 0,38 this is the dialing code for india.
If you use this should work and use 192.168.1.1 as default DNS.
A flashing ADSL light on the router means its not getting constant broadband signals. Make sure it is connected to the adsl filter without any extensions and the filter should be directly connect to the main phone socket and not to an extension socket. Also check if the phone socket has 1 or more than 1 ports on it. If it has two port its most likely a SSFP socket which does not require a filter as it is inbuit. If all the connections are fine try changing da filter.
I have solved my problem, after researching various messageboards yesterday to try and discover why my Siemens Tiscali router didn't work. I'm going to send it back and go with another company!
It seems there has been a lot of debate on these messageboards about Tiscali and/or Siemens products and it now seems also that no one would recommend them. I hereby add my name to that list.
the ipaddress of the router may not be 192.168.1.1 it should say somewhere on the router or the documentation
if you are suing DHCP to allocate the IP address, and the router is set as a DHCP server you should be able to see the ipaddress using whatever tools Apple give on settign up networks.
I think there is possibly something wrong with your telephone line setup check that no phone is connected unless its through a adsl filter, or you have an adsl socket on the master socket in the house. The fact that you are not getting the online light to light up suggests to me that the router isn't talking ADSL network. consider removing ALL phones temporarily and see if that helps...
you should be able to PING an IP Address, again I don't know how youd do that on a MAC, hate 'em personally.
usually all you need to know are the IP address of the gateway (the router). set the DNS to the same IP address, unless Tiscali advise otherwise
the ADSL filters should only remove the hissing noise on the telephone line, so after plugging in the filter the phone should work as normal..
The Default gateway for Siemens Gigaset SE587 is 192.168.1.1. Open Internet Explorer and put the def gateway in the browser.
The default username and password for siemns router is admin.
Click on Setup Tab than Basic Setup on left hand side. Update the details as folloing- Use – Tiscali data PPPoA Interface PVC Selection – Tiscali data PPPoA Authentication – Auto User Name - Tiscali u/n Password - Tiscali password PPPoA Connection Mode- Always On NAT - ON
And click on save settings. To confirm if the customer is connected, check the status of Online light – which should be green. Alternatively click on status (On top) to check internet status to confirm connection.
Setting Up Wireless connection – Click on da wireless tab on the top.
Ensure that the Auto channel is disabled and the wireless channel is 11, wireless n/w is Enabled and mode is Mixed.
To secure the wireless connection – Click on Wireless Security option on left hand side If you want the Security mode as WPA than select the wireless security mode, as WPA and enter WPA Shared key which would be on the base ofthe router. Again click on save settings.
Try connecting to the wireless network again and I m sure it should work..... lemme know if it does.
