It's true with respect to "active state" of mail, so if you put idle for some time you may need to login even when browser is still open. so, try to be in touch of messanger

How do I stop the automatic login when I go to gmail. I want it to require the user to enter the user name & password each time.

Pulled from Google's site:

Disabling automatic sign-in
If you're being automatically signed in to your Google Account, you may have enabled either a password-storing feature in your browser, or the Google Accounts option to "Stay signed in." Learn more about stored passwords in Google Chrome,Mozilla Firefox, and Windows Internet Explorer.
Check if the Google Accounts "Stay signed in" option is actually enabled. Visit the Google Accounts homepage and verify if the checkbox below the Sign In button is selected. If it's selected, delete your browser's cookies.
Each time you sign in to your Google Account, make sure the "Stay signed in" option isn't selected.
If the problem persists, you may want to clear your browser's cache and cookies. Please note that while deleting your cookies may resolve the problem, it will also remove your saved settings for sites you've previously visited.

No. The next time you sign in, make sure the "Stay signed in" box is checked. Then you won't have to sign in the next time you go to Gmail on that computer.

My gmail stays sig-gned in at all time please help

Just sign out by clicking on the menu in the top right corner and selecting "Sign out". The next time you log in, make sure that the box underneath your username and password that says, "Stay signed in" is unchecked. That should solve your problem. Hope this helps!

Hi my gmail page lost 'sign out' button and sometimes as soon as i go to gmail.com it brings my emails with out me signing in can you help me how to bring the things back to normal? thank you

Look in the top right hand corner of your GMail home page when you are signed in.
You should see your email name up there with a down arrow beside it.
Click on the down arrow and select SIGN OUT.

Then next time you sign in to GMail make sure you UNCHECK the STAY SIGNED IN box underneath the username and password boxes on the GMail sign in page.

Thank you and good luck.

Password will not allow to sign in changed to new password gianed acess signed out can not sign in wont stay sign in

Many times the reason you cannot stay logged into your mail account is because of cookies. Gmail will try to set a cookie in your internet browser. If you are blocking cookies or otherwise not accepting cookies, this may contribute to the problem you are facing.
