Olympus Stylus 7040 Digital Camera Logo

I have an Olympus Stylus-7040 that I bought about 3 months ago. I haven't yet bought an SD card for it; instead thus far I've relied on the internal 2 GB of memory. Anyway, I recently shot a 25 minute video and filled up the 2 GB (save for 22 MB for internal camera software). However, when I try to transfer the video to my desktop using the Olympus adapter... it will act as if it's loading for 4-6 minutes than state that "there is no connection" or something similar to that... The same thing happened a couple times 2 days ago when I wasn't using Olympus's software to transfer pictures (Instead I used Start> Computer> Stylus 7040> Olympus etc.), but after I let the camera cool down the whole night, the transfer worked in the morning. So what should I do? A. Keep trying to transfer video file with adapter B. Get an SD Card, transfer video file to SD Card, transfer file to computer using SD Card C. Stop trying and only watch the video on the camera... D. Try to download Olympus software to try to import the video another way E. Purchase a different adapter for my camera Any ideas, thoughts? I thought the whole "cool down" thing might have worked... but the second time I tried to transfer the video file, I had let the camera cool down for 7 hours, and ran a fan directly at it during the whole attempted transfer. Any help would be appreciated.

SOURCE: Ruined Memory Card??

No one can expend efforts to diagnose, repair or let alone talk to you about what may be a 25 to 30 dollar memory card. I've had dozens of such failures but I deal with a fleet of devices and these are spread over the world now. The card, if the camera will not format it is tossed and you get a new one. Whatever you plugged it into is marked as suspect and I'd not do that again.

SOURCE: Olympus 2G xd M card with pictures - error message "clean card" or format

Just had the same issue today. The Olympus Helpdesk told me that the fact I had printed one of the picture from the Xd card in directly inserting the card in the printer slot for Xd created the problem....
The guy from the Helpdesk strongly recommended to transfer the pictures from the camera to the computer exclusively using the USB cable of the camera.
In the end I have saved all my 505 pictures in using the Smart Recovery from PC Inspector but why the hell this problem only happens with Xd cards?

It's possible that your camera, being 7 years old, was never designed for a 2gb card. You can find cards of all sizes at amazon.com

How do you take pictures on sd card instead of inernal memory on Stylus 7010?

With no card in the camera, go into the menu and find "format" (called "initialize" on some cameras) and follow the on-screen instructions to erase the internal memory. Then insert your card and enjoy.

Sd card corrupt, trying to salvage 3 files from a funeral service, 3 will play and 2 or 3 will not. Of course the main part is on the one's that will not play. Is there anyone anywhere that can recover...

Although this was listed two months ago, there still might be a chance. But try not to take more pics until you've recovered your photos, take the card out of the camera. This is to reduce the chance of you overwriting some of your "lost" photos. There are many good freeware photo recovery software options that may help you recover your photos. This article reviews and outlines several of the better ones. For your case, recommend PhotoRec or MiniTool listed in the above article. Also consider the "corrupted card procedures" listed in the article.

When i connect the camera in to the computer via usb it works really sluggishly. U-7040.

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

My olympus stylus tough 6020 keeps telling me card error and will not do anything else. can i fix this ?

Here is what I found on my Stylus 6020. I have the same problem. In the card reader, there are about 9 fine wire contacts sticking up that brush against the SD card when inserted. By shinning light into the empty SD slot, I found two contacts in the middle are either pushed all the way down or have broken off thus causing a card read error. Only 7 or the nine contacts are touching the SD Card. I do not have a solution for this problem other than warranty. This camera is fairly new and has incurred no damage.

Olympus Stylus 840

Are you using the SD card that came with it? or you purchased it separately? It's possible that the SD card is not being detected. maybe that is why it is saving it in the builtin memory instead of the card. did you try a different SD card? please try another card.

CARD FULL with 3 pictures

Have you tryed eraseing / formating it in the 740?

Make sure the camara uses the card instead of internal memory
it might be that its saveing the images into the cameras internal memory witch is probably just about 3-4 shots.
