Hello
& Welcome to FixYa The
problem is with the thermistor, you cannot remove it to jump start the unit, it
will behave exactly as it is doing right now. If replacing the thermistor did
not help then you can get back to me if you have any other questions. Kevin
Check the "thermistor" that is on the blower housing for continuity with a multimeter. It should read 2.27k.
If you get any other reading, replace it with this part.

I checked the thermistor with the multimeter and there was no reading, so I'll go ahead and order the part you mentioned. But... after removing the thermistor, I connected the metal heads that had been joined to the thermistor (theoretically creating continuity?) and the problem persisted. Based on that, do you have other suggestions until the thermistor arrives, as it seems it is not just the thermistor.

Update. We have gotten the motor to run for atleast a couple of minutes (with the thermistor no longer connected, both with the wire connections that had been connected to the thermistor put together with duct tape, and also with those two wire connections unconnected). During the times it does work, after a minute or so, the ignitor area turns brighter and brighter orange and either we hit the stop button or the dryer stops after another minute (I'm guessing since we've disconnected the gas and it can't light up).
With the multimeter, we have checked that there is continuity with other components including the thermal fuse (safety), the belt tension switch, the door, etc.
