I can't believe it! My camera was doing the exact same thing and I read this solution and thought "Sure, take my camera and beat. Thanks for the help." Then I figured what could a little whack with a pencil hurt and the picture actually came back on!!!! I'm so happy. Thanks a million for this very simple fix.

I had this with my Panasonic NV-DS60. I thought it would be the ribbon cables not making good connections from the camera lens electronics because I had a similar problem with another camera. So I took the whole thing apart and disconnected and reconnected the ribbon cables - unfortuantely this didn't work! So I thought there may be another connection I couldn't see so I tapped around the lens area with a hard object (tip of a screwdriver) and it worked! It may be well worth you tapping the case in this way (without pulling the camcorder to bits) on the top, about an inch back from the front of the lens a couple of times. I'm not an expert, but it worked for me! Obviously, don't hit it hard enough to damage it. Good Luck

I'm not in europe any longer so i could not take advantage of the free repair for the same problem on my mv600i, but me having no idea what I was doing decided to try what acegoodbloke tried. I unscrewwed the front section(lense section) after taking off that pannel I turned on my cam again to record mode and magically it was working,I carefully put the front panel back on and yep it still worked. I didnt even touch any cables or inner parts...so i'm just guessing its those cables at the front that are very touchy? stoked though, now i can sell it before its broke again :) never again am I wasting soo soo much money on something that decreases value as much as this camera did!

My DSC Hx1 eem to work but nothing can be seen thouh the view finder nor on the lcd screen and of course no picture, any ideas?

If your Sony DSC HX1 camera appears to be working, but you can't see anything through the viewfinder or LCD screen, there are a few possible causes for this issue:
1. Display Settings: Check the display settings on your camera. There may be an option to switch between the viewfinder and the LCD screen. Make sure the correct display mode is selected.
2. Viewfinder/LCD Switch: Some cameras have a switch or button that allows you to toggle between the viewfinder and the LCD screen. Ensure that this switch is in the correct position for the display you want to use.
3. Display Brightness: It's possible that the brightness of the viewfinder or LCD screen is set too low, making it difficult to see the image. Check the camera's settings menu for options to adjust the brightness or contrast of the display.
4. Faulty Display: If the above steps don't resolve the issue, it's possible that there is a problem with the camera's viewfinder or LCD screen. This could be due to a loose connection, a damaged cable, or a malfunctioning component. In such cases, it's recommended to have the camera inspected and repaired by a professional technician or the manufacturer's service center.
5. Power Saving Mode: Some cameras have a power-saving feature that turns off the display after a certain period of inactivity. Check the camera's power-saving settings and make sure the display timeout is set to a reasonable duration.
If none of these solutions work, it's best to consult the camera's user manual for specific troubleshooting steps or contact Sony customer support for further assistance. They will be able to provide you with more detailed guidance based on the specific model and issue you're facing.

Not seeing anything through the viewfinder when switched on

Most cameras and video recorders now display picture either through the viewfinder or the LCD screen.
Your camera model allows the same. Although if you turn the lcd screen towards the subject (screen faces the same direction as the lens) then the viewfinder switches on.

Blank screen

Sounds like you accidentally pressed the DISP (Display) button on the back of your camera. This manually turns the screen on and off in picture taking mode to save battery power. You could then use the optical viewfinder in its place. To turn it back on, just the DISP button one more time.

Shooting mode shows nothing.

Hello,

I just had this issue with my camera (my 15 year old son solved it for me ;-) ).

The viewfinder was active in "record" mode and the LCD was "active" because you could see a little back light but no image. The "playback" mode would let me review pictures in the LCD though so I know it is capable of showing information.

If you push the display key/button a couple of times you can see the picture move from the viewfinder to the LCD and have just a picture and or a picture and information.

So try setting the camera to "record" mode (lens comes out) and then push the "display button" which is on the back of the camera just to the right of the LCD on the lower right side several times and see if the LCD starts to work.

It could be that somehow the display button was pushed by mistake.

I OWN A CANON POWERSHOT SD1000. THE DISPLAY SCREEN IS BLACK WHEN I TRY TO TAKE A PICTURE. HOWEVER PLAYBACK IS CLEARLY VISIBLE. IT IS ONLY WHEN I ENDEAVOUR TO TAKE A NEW PICTURE THAT THE SCREEN IS TOTALLY...

If you take a picture using the optical viewfinder, does the camera actually record the picture? If so, you may have the LCD turned off in the camera mode (there are three options: standard, detailed, and off). With the camera in the shooting mode, press the "DISP" button and see if the LCD turns on.

Using the camera screen (LCD) as a viewfinder

To use the LCD as a viewfinder: Turn the Mode dial to any Still mode. Press the OK button to turn on the camera screen. Frame your subject in the LCD. Press the Shutter button to take a picture. NOTE: Using the camera screen as a viewfinder significantly reduces battery power. Use it sparingly.
