What is the TV source? For some sources (set top box), you may need to turn on the captions using the menus of the box.
Assuming you are using a source that gives captions that the TV can interpret, if you have the Proscan 26LA30Q remote, press the CC button to toggle through the caption options. Another route is to press Menu (either on the remote or the buttons on the side of the TV) then select the Feature submenu with the left/right arrows. Press Enter (menu when you use the buttons on the TV) then navigate to the Digital Closed Captions option. Here you can set the captions to on and adjust the size, style and color of the captions when they appear on-screen.
If you are using a universal remote, try the CC button. If it doesn't work, try another code for the Proscan TV on the remote. There are some codes that may not control all of the functions of the TV with the remote.
Crutchfield has the manual for the TV on the product site: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Kaec3gBqVtM/p_68326LA30Q/Proscan-26LA30Q.html . The direct link is http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutchfield.com/Manuals/683/68326LA30Q.PDF .
I hope this helps

We cannot turn the closed caption off.
Again what is your source? If the captions are being transmitted by the dvd player or satellite/cable box, you need to turn them off at the source. (One of my neighbors had enabled captions for a visiting relative via the set-top box to an older TV. When the relative left, they'd forgotten the steps to disable the captions. Unfortunately, with the satellite box, the caption menu was not directly accessible with the CC button on the remote.) Cindy Wells
