NAD 712 Stereo Receiver display

The LCD display on my NAD 712 receiver quit working. The problem has been isolated to the backlighting for the dispalay (if I shine a flashlight from the backside, the display is visible with valid data). The backlighting consists of two small light bulbs mounted on a small circuit board (1/2" x 1.5"). The bulbs are 4mm in diameter and ~10mm tall (without leads). I measured the voltage supply to these bulbs at 5.5V DC. The bulbs are wired in series. Where can I find a part number and/or supplier for these bulbs? I assume that they must have either a 2.5V or 3.0V rating, but I have not idea regarding current draw. Any suggestions?

Funny, I measured 24 Vdc, not 5.5. Radio Shack p/n 272-1154 12v 50ma Bi Pin Lamp They also have a 25ma bulb with insualted pigtails. The replacement bulbs ran for bout 2 years before I had to replace them again but for approx $4 I'm not complaining

Replace the incandescent lightbulbs with two or three high intensity blue or white LEDs. You will need current limiting resistors based on what the actual voltage is to the bulbs. The LEDs and resistors are readily available at Radio Shack or your local electronics shop, or Mouser.com.

SOURCE: Nad 712 output issues - Mute flashing

The only thing I can tell you for sure is that the mute indicator always flashes (very dimly) when the receiver is off.  I have no idea why, but mine has always done this.

SOURCE: NAD 712 Display unit

On my system the bulbs burned out some time ago. Today, I bought a pair of 12v micro lamps at Radio Shack (part 272-1092). Then removed the board behind the display and replaced the bulbs. This required some soldering. The bulbs have held up for more than 6 hours, so I do not think they are going to burn out.

SOURCE: will NAD 712 accept an iPod Docking Station?

A 712 is not set up to use an Ipod USB dock.  You can buy a dock that will use RCA jacks into an old stereo - Apple sells them, others too.  Then the Ipod sits up and you can look at it.  Or you can buy the 1/8" stereo plug to two RCA plugs that Radio Shack has been selling for 30-40 years, plug one end into your Ipod headphone jack, and run the two RCA plugs into your Aux input.  That costs about $5, and is easy as pie.  An Ipod will play through any old receiver, but the USB docks will not plug into them.

I have a NAD C720BEE receiver and I'd like to get apple tv and run it through my stereo with this receiver. Can you tell me if this is possible. thanks, Letitia

Hi,
You will be able to connect the apple TV to the Nad Stereo receiver. For that check the picture bellow of the apple tv box. There is two connector named Analog Wich you can connect to the input of the Nad. You can choose Video in put of the Nad. There is a need For a stereo RCA capble to interconnect both the apple tv and The NAD receiver. I have also added the picture of the RCA cable Which you need. After making connections Power on both apple TV and NAD. In the Nad receiver select Video in by Pressing the video button on its frond pannel.
Suarly you will get the audio.
If you need any more assistance feel free to contact me By fixya. Our you can conatct me on my email address [email protected]

NAD T-763 receiver. cannot get surround sound. all speakers work. should the 7.1 and or surround be connected to the receiver and what else. stereo works fine....two front speakers, in stereo mode. ...

Have you looked at the manual? There is no internal source that would produce 7.1 audio other than the test tones. Attach a multichannel source according to ITS manual.

Sansui G-7700 digital display

Funny that you just posted. On Monday, I dropped off my G-7700 at The Audio Lab in Harvard Square, Cambridge, MA. http://www.theaudiolab.com/

As soon as I walked in the place I knew I was at the right spot. They service and sell some really high-end vintage units as well as carry brand new high-end audio equipment. $60/hr for service work. As a gauge, my G-7700 took 2hrs to do a complete overhaul, which included replacing some pots, re-soldering cold joints, calibrating the tuner and other components. i thought it worked really well before!

Experienced, knowledgeable, efficient.

Give them a call and ship your G-7700 to them. It's worth it.

NAD 7130 FM stereo signal (on off again and again)

The contacts in the A B speaker selector switch had degraded on my NAD 7130 receiver. Distortion and signal loss would come and go. Contact cleaner and wriggling the swx knob became useless. Then, years ago I jumped the swx with small lengths of bare wire and tinned the whole thing with solder. Never had a problem since and it probably improved the receiver because it eliminated a component in the output stage that could (and did) introduce distortion.

NAD 7140

Hi okapi6

Use a 3.5mm stereo jack to RCA connector lead.
370a7a3.jpg Connect this to the AUX input on the back of the 7140, and away you go. Get the lead as an accessory from just about any electronics hobby store.

NAD 7140

The clicking is the sound of a bad relay. A relay is an electrical switch that opens and closes under the control of another electrical circuit. There is no user solution for this. You'll have to take it to an electronics repair shop (~$150) or dump the whole unit.

NAD 712 Stereo Receiver

the lamps i use on all NAD displays(and have done since the early 1990's) last heaps longer. You can get them from RS components in your country. They are a 14v 37ma type, and seem to last. Never had any come back for replacement again. P/N 351-9585. Increasing the ballast resistor where fitted by 25% in valua also helps preserve them
