Wont sew bottom looper not working - Singer 14SH654

May be difficult for a DIYer, but try searching for overlocker or serger timing.

Confused... How does a sewing machine have a "mn looper?" Sewing machines have a bobbin. A serger has a looper. Perhaps knowing the model would be helpful.

Some sergers will unthread themselves if the thread is not threaded through the throat plate right. Especially the lower looper because there is not a lot of space for it to move. Try bringing the thread from the looper straight up through the hole in the throat plate, not to the side of the plate. You can also talk to the professionals at the link that I have attached. I'm going to assume here you're talking about a serger. Unthread the lower looper and the eyes of the needle. Set the lower looper tension to 0. Rethread the lower looper, then the needle eyes. Then reset the lower looper tension (try about half a number lower) and see if it chains. If it won't chain, try replacing the needles.

Most probably the timing is out between loopers and needles, the Brother Service man is best person to help you with this.

Rolled hem would be one needle and two loopers, is this what you meant?

Make sure you move the blade to right so that you are cutting wider than the stitch being formed, you want the fabric to roll to the underside inside the stitch.

I would set top looper tension to 3 and bottom looper tension to 6 first off (needle at five, normal tension) first off and test serge with the stitch length at normal 2 or so, so you can see if the fabric is rolling under for you. There is proabably a stitch finger in the throat that you need to change too, sometimes its on the foot, (change with a screwdriver) and sometimes just a finger down on the needle plate.

Then adjust the two looper tensions making lower thread nestle up against the needle on the bottom of the stitch, and the top looper thread wrapping right over to bottom as well. Once this is happening, then turn stitch length down to close up the stitches.

It does depend on the weight of fabric too, and if you want to seam curves.

I find its best done with wooly overlock thread on top looper to "fill" in the overlocking appearance and fully cover the fabric.

I hope this is of help, if the tensions just wont behave then one of them might be faulty and machine need a service, I get mine done at least every 2 years to keep timing and tensions right.

Many times you can get a small burr on the tip of the lower looper and it will break one of the needle threads. Run your finger nail off the tip of the lower looper, all around, and check for a snag as your finger nail slides off the tip of the looper. You can get some very fine sand paper 600 grit and gently rub on the back side, top, and bottom tip of the looper. Never the front side of the looper. Try serging again and see of that doesn't help.

What make and model overlocker?

Best bet is get hold of a manual for it; try the manufacturer's website, www.sewusa.com , www.sewingpartsonline.com or www.diplofix.com to obtain one.

My Bernina 334D, sequence from L-R, is thread 3, thread 4, then needles, so top looper, bottom looper then needles. But if yours has a chain stitch it would probably be a little different.

I will make this easy first always thread the machine upper looper then lower looper then the needles if a thread breaks especially if it was one of the loopers, make sure to pull the needle thread out before hand then rethread. as for the breakages look to see if the loopers are hitting each other when they cross and see if the needles are hitting the loopers when they go together either of these things will cause problems if so it will need to be looked at by a tech
