We have a maytag performa Model PAVT234AWW and it is ~3 yrs old. It worked fine this morning until the spin cycle. Grinding and clanking noises were heard from the bottom. We unloaded the machine and ran the spin cycle empty, no grinding noise but it did not spin quiet. Could this be the coupler? Need help on estimate cost or should we buy a new washer?
This washer is JUNK!!!!!! We have the same washer (2 1/2 years old) and same problem. Tried to replace the bearing myself, no luck. So I called a repair man to come out and look at it. As soon as i told him the model number, they would'nt even come out. Very common problem for this washer. We are on our way to Sears to purchase a Kenmore.....GOOD LUCK

I have the same model and a very similar problem. It appears to be the pump. I am very familiar with water pumps and this fits the bill.
