I have a sony kds-r50xbr1 when turn-ed on the stand by light flashes for about a min the goes solid and picture comes on but very dark. replaced lamp . there is no sound from any input and the controls dont work , menu volume or chanel

Are you sure the lamp is pushed in far enough and did you make sure you screwed cover back on tightly?

Replace lamp to fix tv problem.
Symptom shows existing lamp is weak (not broken or dead yet) so replace it to fix the issue.

Its time to replace lamp in this tv because existing lamp has reached to end of its working life span and causing problem. If lamp got broken, you will see lamp light lit on tv front but weaker lamp cause above symptoms.

I too have a Sony KDS-R60XBR1 tv and the issue that you are experiencing is due to one of your fans in the rear of the tv is not working.  The tv automatically shuts off in protective mode.  Make sure the POWER/STANDBY light is blinking and not the lamp light below it.  Is the power/standby blinking 4 times in red? If, yes then its a fan that needs to be replaced.  If its the lamp light blinking then you need to replace the lamp.  The lamp is easy to replace by ordering the lamp either from Sony for $250 or find it cheaper for approx. $150 from other DLP sources and replace youself by following your manual.  I hope this helps you.

klchen,the lamp door is not mating with the safety switch on its' left side,or the switch is bad.JOE TV.
